Ciaran hung up the phone with a smirk of satisfaction. His hangover had faded away during his morning swim leaving him eager to get out and do something. The afternoon stretched out before him and before he'd thought much about it, he'd called Dax and invited him to lunch. Nothing special, just a sandwich, something simple. Dax had seemed agreeable enough and they'd set a time. Ciaran looked over his wardrobe with careful attention. The dark thing wanted to make the choices today. It wanted something after the long tease of last night though he couldn't say what. It itched at him, reaching for tight, alluring clothing.
Crisply ironed khaki shorts and milky blue t-shirt that stretched over the line of his shoulders were good enough, he decided, shoving it down. He showered off, towel drying his hair so it lay in tousled waves instead of it usual slicked back perfection. No need. Just a casual lunch. He stared warily at himself in the mirror. Nothing unusual stared back, even as the silver flick of his razor ran over the morning's stubble.
"Paranoid, old boy." He muttered to himself as he dressed.
He got there early, securing a table where he could sit with his back to the wall. Pulling out his phone, he hammered out a few e-mails while he waited.
