Date: April 2, 2011 Characters: Charisma & Maureen Gibbons, Layla (NPC), Jason Travis Location: The Affair Status: Public Summary: Charisma goes shopping for a tasteful salsa dress. Completion: Complete
Jase glanced up from the computer and grinned at the attractive trio that entered the shop. Sisters, most likely judging by the coloring. "Hi, welcome to The Affair. How can we assist your needs today?" he asked in a slightly cheeky tone.
Charisma couldn't deny the man sitting at the computer was quite attractive. Not entirely her type, but attractive none-the-less. "Well, I'm going on a first date tomorrow, dinner and dancing, and I'd really like to buy a new dress for it," she explained.
Jase and Maureen are sharing Jase's LJ for the moment.
"A first date, hm? Wanting to dress to impress? Well you've definitely come to the right place," he said, chuckling. "Come on up, formals and special occasions are on the second floor." He glanced at the slightly older woman. "And for you? I imagine you need several gowns to keep up with your busy social life."
Maureen blushed, shaking her head. "Just looking today, thanks." She smacked Layla's shoulder lightly as her daughter giggled. "Moral support for that one," she added, nodding at Charisma.
"Definitely, but I still want to dress age-appropriate," Charisma explained. She followed the man up to the second floor, noticing right away that the dresses here were just as gorgeous, even though they weren't wedding gowns. She giggled right along with Layla at his comment to Maureen.
"She thinks Moms shouldn't dress up like this," she said, motioning to a stunning, almost too-sexy dress. "I say she's still got the body for it, so why not?" she teased her sister.
"So, I'm looking for something probably about knee-length, and not too revealing. Subtle sexy, I suppose. We're going salsa dancing, so something I'll be able to move in." She was curious to see which dresses he might pick for her.
"I'm good with most colors, but red tones generally just don't work," Charisma said, grinning wryly. "Something about my hair, I guess." Oh she was definitely feeling like a seventeen year old shopping for her prom dress again. But, it was a good feeling.
Charisma wiggled her eyebrows when the salesman encouraged Maureen to try on the dress. She'd have to make sure Maureen bought the dress if it flattered her, and if she refused, well then, Charisma might just have to buy it for her.
"Exactly, why not?" Charisma said, encouraging her sister.
Maureen sighed, taking the dress from the salesman and glaring half-heartedly at her sister. "Her turn," she told him, jerking a thumb at Charisma.
Jase chuckled, picking out several dresses and then ushering the group to the dressing rooms after the younger sister had chosen a couple more. "I'm Jase, by the way," he said, hanging up the dresses. "Just give a holler if you need anything and I'm not right here."
Charisma followed Jase to the dressing rooms, but before she could go in, Layla grabbed one more dress. "You have to try this one on, too, Aunt Charisma!"
Charisma looked at the dress dubiously. "You're crazy, Layla," she said, shaking her head. "I'll try it on, but there's no way I'm buying it." It was far too risque for a first date. She took the dress from her niece and went into the room.
She didn't bother showing the first dress; it did not flatter her at all. She opted to try Layla's pick next. She had to admit, the dress did amazing things with her curves, but she just wouldn't spend the money on a dress she would probably never wear, no matter how stunning it was. She went out to show Layla.
"What do you think, kiddo?" she asked Layla, then louder she said, "Maureen, come out and let us see that dress on you."
Layla whistled enthusiastically at the dress. "I like it! You look gooooooood, Aunt Riz." She dragged out the word, grinning.
Maureen stared at herself in the mirror. The dress looked kind of amazing, but so revealing. She bit her lip as she opened the door. "Um? Well?" she asked, dropping her arms, which she'd crossed over her chest.
Charisma laughed, shaking her head at her niece. "Well, of course I do," she said, winking at Layla. "But it's not appropriate for a first date, so I'm going to pass on it."
She looked at her sister when Maureen came out. Yes, the dress was probably the most low-cut she'd ever seen her more-conservative sister wear, but it was stunning. "You look incredible, Maureen," Charisma said genuinely. "You should indulge a little."
Layla pouted. "You never know when you'll need a good dress," she insisted. "What if a first date leads to a second date?" She may be twelve, but she wasn't stupid. She knew how these things worked.
Her eyes widened as her mom came out. "Wow! Mom, you look totally hot."
Maureen moved to look in the full length mirror. "I... you guys think so?" The back and the length were fine, but holy crap the front was low.
Charisma shook her head at the twelve-year-old. Maureen was definitely going to have her hands full with Layla entering the boy-crazy stage. "Then I still won't be wearing this dress because it's definitely not appropriate for a thirty-one year old," she insisted with a laugh.
Charisma nodded emphatically at her sister. "It's about time you embraced your appeal," she insisted. Maureen had always been beautiful, but Charisma knew that Dustin had managed to knock her sister's esteem, and she was determined to help her sister find it again.
Maureen sighed, turning to look at herself in the mirror again and then back at her sister. "I'll get this if you get that," she negotiated, giving her sister a quick once over. "That looks good, despite whether or not it's appropriate. This isn't exactly Mom-like, y'know?" she added, gesturing to her own dress.
Charisma considered what she could put out as a counter-offer, but even if she said no and then just bought the dress for Maureen as a gift, there was no guarantee Maureen would actually wear it. And besides, as she looked at herself in the mirror she could imagine how it would feel for it to come off. Not that she'd wear this dress in public, but in private, definitely.
"Deal," she finally said. "But I'm not wearing this tomorrow, so I still have to find a dress for that." She went back in her dressing room, shimmied out of the dress quickly and setting it aside. She stared at it for a moment, hardly believing she'd just agreed to buy it.
Charisma slid into the next dress, one of Jase's picks, and smiled widely. She came out of the dressing room, doing a little twirl for Layla. "Oh, I love this one. It's perfect for tomorrow!" The hint of cleavage, the shoulder cutouts, the perfect length, and the color all complimented her so well! "I don't even know if I want to keep looking," she said with a little laugh.
Maureen snickered as she went into her own dressing room, changing back into her regular clothes. It was nice having her sister around again, even if Charisma talked her into things she wouldn't normally do. She'd have to put the dress away, maybe for a night out with Piers. Maybe. Or maybe she'd call up Astrid and they could go dancing again.
She heard Layla squealing over the next dress Charisma had put on and smoothed down her hair before gathering her things and tossing the new dress over her arm. She exited the dressing room, eyes widening as she took in the new dress. "Okay, sis, if you don't buy that, I'm buying it for you," she said. "That's perfect!"
Charisma twirled around to look at Maureen. "Oh, don't worry, I'm buying it," she assured her sister. "And I'm not trying anymore on, 'cause I'm weak and I don't think my bank account could survive it." She laughed lightly. It wasn't entirely true, but she needed to get back in the habit of budgeting. The trip out here had sort of spoiled her.
She went back in the dressing room, changed back into her normal clothes, and came back out with the two new dresses slung over her arm. "Okay, let's go before we get in any more trouble."
Back downstairs at the checkout counter, Charisma grinned at Jase. "I'll take these two." She was relieved that they fit off the rack, as she definitely didn't have time to get them fitted. "I left the no's in the dressing room, I hope that's all right." She hadn't wanted to put them back in the wrong place or anything.

He glanced at the dress the younger one motioned to and chuckled, glancing at the older one. "You could," he said, grabbing it. "Wanna try it?"
Maureen eyed the dress and then gave both her sister and the salesman a disbelieving look, then sighed. "Sure, why not?" she gave in.
