The good thing about the shelter grapevine was that occasionally, it yielded something important. Once in a very great while, they got a lead on a rescue horse, so while Mia didn't have a lot of local contacts in that regard, she still had some that came around to check in. With the fires, she'd heard little from them recently, though she tried not to worry, since she knew they'd all be keeping an eye to their own affairs right now. But the idle water-cooler chit-chat right now had started including a grassroots charity for local ranch owners, and she'd heard a name that definitely rang a bell.
She couldn't say she was surprised that Rori was helping to head the effort. Nor could she say she wasn't intrigued. Couldn't hurt to check it out; see if she could do anything. Looking up Rori's number, Mia dialed, then leaned back in her chair, nibbling at a nail as she waited for the call to connect.
