Ryan wasn't normally one to avoid unpleasant topics. Hell, working the crime beat in Chicago had made that practically impossible. But, shit, he was having the hardest time just coming out. He'd meant to tell his dad when they met up on Wednesday but he just...didn't. Which made absolutely no sense. His dad was an understanding guy and Ryan knew he really should've done this a while ago. But, the idea of another parent rejecting him scared the shit out of him. Shannon still refused to meet up with him and he didn't know if he could handle his dad feeling the same way. Deep down, Ryan knew he'd been lying about who he was for too damn long and he needed to stop. Now. Or sometime soon anyways.
The agitation he'd been feeling about this had been driving him insane the past week. He'd barely made it through the work week with out practically tearing out his hair and... he really just wanted to call Aleksei. Three months was too long to mope over an ex, but Aleksei had been different. What they had, what he had ruined, was special. He couldn't say for how long he'd regret the decisions he made, but he knew it would be a long while.
Sitting at home thinking about all of this would do him absolutely no good. Which was why he decided to go to Jones French Bakery and wait for Marie to get off of work. He'd brought his notebook with him in hope that maybe a change of setting would help. Even if it wasn't doing much for him at the moment, writing things down was usually a good source of stress relief for Ryan. Maybe he could talk to Marie about it over dinner or something. But until then he sat at a table with a brownie, staring at a blank page.
