He sounded like hell on the radio; she felt like hell, right about now.

So Rikku was going to sit, hugging her knees, by door 429.

There were some days where Reno was very thankful that he was not just a fast runner, but he was a stupidly fast runner.

Those were usually the days when he demonstrated that he had a big mouth.

Today was one such day, and he might have been panting a little for breath as he upped the last flight of stairs to his floor and started down the hall to his room. Too many smokes today. Not enough booze. That's what he'd blame the fatigue on, this time.

He was full of excu--

A deep, slow breath solved the panting issue, and he slowed his step a little.

"Too cold for the roof, this time?" He came to a stop beside her, leaned against the wall, and slid down it so that he was now sitting beside her. "I got a jacket, zoto."

Rikku shook her head. "Lonely up on the roof. Felt like ... I don't know what I felt like. But I kinda felt like you sounded, just now."

She hugged her knees a little tighter. Couldn't really ask if he was okay. He wasn't. So that was a stupid question. All of them sounded stupid, right now.

"Pretty sure I feel like I just sounded, too. Matchin' set."

Reno wasn't the sort to hug his knees.

So it was probably some indication as to how he felt when he pulled his knees up against his chest and wrapped his arms around them with a bit of a sigh.

"Probably pretty lonely in the hallway, too, huh?"

"I thought ..." She bit her lip. "Kinda rude to break in. When we're ... I don't know what we are. And you might not wanna talk. I'm not sure if I wanna talk, either. I don't know what I want."

Except that somehow, when she was broken into pieces, the right place to be was near him. That bit bothered her, as much as it reassured her.
