Rikku got back to her alcove and was thinking. About work, and Cable's baby -- not Cable's baby, but sort of his, anyway -- and her way-awesome summer classes and still trying to figure out what mood she was in, where it all balanced out, and that's when she saw the letter.
Oooh, hey, one from Pops, probably full of lectures about boys and the thumping in the engine room and how dumb her brother was being. She flopped onto her bed and skimmed it, her toes pointing this way and that, until she got to the very end. A casual little 'hey, guess what else stupid people are doing?' and some scathing commentary from Pops.
She stared at the words and tried to make them make sense again.
New Yevon. New Yevon.
A thousand years of lies and deception and false teachings, and now people were deciding, hey, just because they were wrong doesn't mean we shouldn't follow them anyway. Let's see if we can't start the whole system up again!
She crumpled the letter and threw it against her wall, where it made a soft thud before falling to the floor. Not satisfying in the least. So she picked up the clock she was rewiring and hurled it instead. That made a much nicer smash.
Good. Great. Fabulous.
She stalked out of her alcove. She needed air. Badly.
