"Okay," said Rikku. Bouncing a little on the sidewalk and trying hard to not think about the last time she was in DC. But that was a totally different part of town and a coffee shop and not an Expedition

"Depends," Dawn said, already planning on talking Rikku into getting pretty underthings for herself--just in case, of course, "Are you hungry, do you need caffeine, or should we head right to the pajama places?"
"I snagged some breakfast before class, and I am rarin' to go!" Rikku bounced a little for emphasis. "If you wanna stop for anything we totally can but if not ... I say it's pajama time."
"Luke first, or us first? Very different stores," she pointed, taking a moment to stare at her reflection in a store window--she'd forgotten she'd let Rikku pick the outfit, so it was a bit brighter than she was used to. "Unless we want to get him girl jammies, but that's a completely different issue."
Rikku snickered at the thought. "Maybe we get him a couple sets of girl jammies, in case he whines about the boy ones. Just to spring them on him next time."
She chewed her lip, then blushed again. "Maybe, uh, maybe us first? So I can't, uh, talk myself out of it?"
"Sounds like a plan to me. And you're not talking yourself out of it," Dawn said, opening a door to a shop that looked kind of promising and holding it for Rikku to enter. "You need something that says pretty and friendly, but still you, y'know?"
Rikku blushed harder. "Y-yeah, I, uh, we're ... it's just that ..." She dropped her voice. "My, uh, my bras are all, you know, like orange and stripey and ... I'm not used to ... anybody else s-seeing them? I kinda want ... ones that, uh."
She was beet red by the end of that, and luckily was saved by the entrance to the shop. "... Dude."
"You have stripey bras? Those sound pretty," Dawn tried to be encouraging. "But I totally get wanting prettier ones when someone might be seeing them. I mean, it's not like I got a bunch of new stuff when Sam and I, um...yeah. So, do you want to start with underwear, or go to nightgowns or something?"
"They're, uh, they're more fun than pretty." Rikku shrugged. "Which is cool, 'cause I was always 'no one's gonna see 'em but me' and I totally, uh, didn't realize that wasn't always gonna be true."
She nodded. "Um. Underwear, maybe? At least bras, I mean? Do you, uh, I mean ... what are you looking for?"
"Yeah, boys are sneaky that way," Dawn blushed. "Sam earned some serious boyfriend points, so I want to get something extra-pretty, if that doesn't sound too lame."
"That doesn't sound lame at all," Rikku smiled. "That sounds sweet. Like a nightgown thing or a lacy thing or a 'look, it's expensive dental floss' thing?"
Rikku blushed. "Y-yeah, me too. I mean. I'm not used to ... yeah."
She turned to start looking through the racks, still blushing. "I, uh, I feel like I'm gonna get kicked out for being ... not girly enough. I mean, all this satin."
Rikku blushed again. "Yeah. I bet you're right. It just ... seems kinda not-me, like ..."
She stopped and pulled out a black nightgown, with a sharp gasp. "Like this. This is like nothing I own and totally isn't me at all and why do I love it?"
"Because it's got flowers?" Dawn suggested, "and it doesn't have to look like all your other stuff--this is you wearing stuff for Jude, or just because it makes you feel pretty."
Anya had told her all about the importance of underwear one very rainy Sunday afternoon when Spike and Giles weren't around.
Rikku was apparently going to be blushing all morning, it seemed like. "Oh, wow, I so couldn't wear this in front of Jude, I mean, could I? ... Maybe ... maybe not just yet, but ..."
She looked up mischeviously. "It, uh, it can't hurt to just ... try it on, right? Ooooh! What'd you grab?" She peered at the other girl's nightgown. "Ooooooooh."
