The truth was, Rikku had almost forgotten the note she'd written to Lulu nearly a
month ago. Not that it wasn't important, just that, you know. It had been a kinda busy month.
So when she checked her mail Monday morning, she was a little surprised to find a big, bulky envelope from home, and even more confused to see it was from Lulu. Engine schematics she would have expected, but what could Lulu have to say that would take up so much room?
... Oh.
Rikku really, really hoped this wasn't twenty-odd pages of lecturing about her being some kind of a tramp or something and skimmed until she found:
Of course I don't mind, I did offer, didn't I? And I don't think you're anything other than a young woman who is discovering some of the things that her body can do, or at least things that it would like to do. There are girls your age in Spira who've married, you know.
Let's start at the beginning. You're worried that something of yours is broken. Are you having regular cycles? Is there pain, or unusual discharge? If the answers to those aren't "yes" and "no", then please see a Healer and speak more frankly with her. But I think what's concerning you is that your body isn't responding to your attempts at self-gratification. (Which is not only normal, but also healthy and a good way of learning what you enjoy.)
I would recommend taking a long bath and afterwards, spending an hour or two familiarizing yourself with your own body. Have you ever? Women are complex creatures, after all, and knowing what you are looking for will greatly help your search.
Then there was a diagram. And a few more paragraphs explaining exactly what and where you should ...
"Whoa," Rikku breathed. Skimming ahead led her to:
If he's asking you to remove yourself from his lap, it's probably because of his own body's reaction to what is transpiring between you. Again, I'm not certain what you're familiar with of the male anatomy, so forgive me if this is all material which you're already aware of, but it's best to start at the beginning.
Another diagram, with handy labels for things and ... and then a few paragraphs on guys and their non-cellphones and on and on and ...
"Dude." Okay, the lap thing was kinda making more sense, now. Although it was kind of weird that he ... never mind. More skimming first.
Of course I won't be mentioning this to your father; what occurs between you and your young man isn't his concern, although I'm certain he would think it is. What matters is that you are well-informed, safe, and not in a position where you will be hurt. The last is the most difficult to accomplish; only you know if you're emotionally ready to handle all of the consequences of being so open with another person. As for safety ...
Oh. So that was what Mel had meant about "protection"? Okay. Good to know. Bayla was great, but Bayla could wait a few years. Maybe several.
She flipped ahead to discover even more sections, covering all kinds of things people did with each other that weren't exactly that but were pretty darn close, and what exactly you were supposed to do if you were doing them, and ... how long was this letter, anyway?!
Then there were pages on ... well, that, and positionings for it and how to be careful about not having kids and how to be careful in a different way your first time and then there was a page just marked "Erogenous Zones" and with things helpfully marked and ...
She felt like she should take notes, here.
And after a few seconds of considering it, Rikku really wasn't sure why that was a bad idea. This was all kinds of helpful information, and this stuff was important. Maybe it was kinda weird to take notes on a letter you got, but hey, it wasn't like Hermione was going to laugh at her for it. Yet another upside to having a booky roommate.
She flipped back to the start of the letter and settled in to really read it this time. And then when she finished, started it over again.
Lulu? Was awesome.
(Door and post both open. Just as a heads-up: contents of letter are on a NWS topic, though discussed in vague terms; proceed at your own risk.)
