Denmark, Sunday, Midday (NFB, distance)

Jul 15, 2007 23:30

Rikku made a face and stretched out on the bed.

Okay, the castle was ... well, it was a castle, and a huge, beautiful, fancy one at that. She hadn't quite believed it when she'd first seen it; she had to stand and stare for a while. A castle.

She knew Hamlet was supposed to be a prince, but that kinda didn't really sink in until she saw the castle. His castle.

And then it all hit her again and she needed a moment to stand there anyway.

"C'mon," she told the Judekitty. "I think they're expecting us."

Horatio had arranged for her to get rooms in the castle, which was nicer than staying at a hotel down the road but also way sadder. This was supposed to be Hamlet's castle, but some thought-he-was-so-cool Fortinbras guy was running around being king of it. Jerk. Hamlet would have been a way better king.

Everyone looked at her strangely for carrying around an eight-pound gray cat everywhere she went. Even to dinner. Even to formal events.

She didn't explain. And she didn't set him down.

And she had really tried to fit in at Saturday night's the big fancy state dinner event deal. She'd even bought something all formal-y and black, but it was apparently still kinda weird. And her hair never stayed and she'd gotten weird looks for having the Judekitty with her and eventually she'd just given up and acted weird on purpose to try to get as many strange looks as possible.

She had a feeling that somewhere, Hamlet would have approved.

She'd been in Denmark two days and still hadn't managed to go to the Cathedral she couldn't pronounce.

"I know, I'm stalling," she told the Judekitty.

He mrowled and licked her hands reassuringly.

She'd have to go tonight.

She didn't want to go at all.

She was seriously considering just ... heading back to Fandom in the morning without seeing his grave. Which was stupid and ruined the whole point of her coming and ... and she still didn't want to go.

Her train of thought was interrupted by a sharp knock. "Come in," she called, hoping that whoever it was hadn't heard her talking to her cat.

(OOC: NFB, for Horatio.)
