mel's favorite cds of 2005
in no particular order...
1) "extraordinary ways" - conjure one
2) "glass cuts" - various artists remixing philip glass
3) "speak for yourself" - imogen heap
4) "the woods" - sleater-kinney
5) "confessions on a dance floor" - madonna
6) "illinois" - sufjan stevens
7) "the beekeeper" - tori amos
7 is a good number :)
i didn't see a lot of films this year, mostly due to being broke, but also due to the stinky shite they call movies these days. i did of course enjoy episode iii of star wars, as it was by far the best of the prequel trilogy. sadly, it still lacks something from the original trilogy. i also liked the fourth harry potter, as it is my favorite book thus far, and i think they did an excellent job adapting it to the screen. although i wanted SPEW! other films i liked were "crash," "saving face," "march of the penguins," and "me and you and everyone we know."
as far as books go, a lot of what i read was not released in 2005. but the books from this year i liked included "assassination vacation" by sarah vowell, "son of a witch" by gregory maguire, and "harry potter and the half blood prince" by you-know-who.
