Name: Maximilian “Max” Olsen
Gender & Played-By: Male & Jesse McCartney
Age & Birthday: 15 & January 3
Nationality: Danish

Physical Description: Max has a large scar running from the area between his left thumb and forefinger up to his elbow. An accident from when he was a kid he doesn't remember the incident, and will more than likely spin a wild tale just to fool you.
FAMILY DETAILS
Parent/s: Sven Olsen (Durmstrang Alumni - Polnoch House) & Georgia (Georgie) Olsen (Hogwarts Alumni - Ravenclaw House). Sven died a few months before Max was born.
Siblings: One half-sister, Birgitte - twelve years old and a squib. She's a somewhat spoiled little girl, but doesn't find her lack of magical powers an issue - it's Max who does, as there's always been whispers that the reason why she's a squib is because of his mother's fling with a Muggleborn American years ago. Really, that isn't the case but there's not much to be said about that.
Extended Family: All grandparents are deceased along with one uncle on his mother side; two uncles of various levels of ‘fame’ live on his father’s side. Names/Families/Status are all up to debate aside from the fact that they are older than Sven was.
SCHOOL-CENTRIC
Year: Fifth
Path/House: Morgen

Quidditch: Seeker
Pet: A Barn Owl named Nora. You know, A Doll's House?
Wand: 12 inch, Rosewood with a Hippogriff feather. Springy
Patronus: A Baboon
Boggart: His mother and sister dead.
Erised: His face on a Frog Card. It’s literally that simple at this time. Along with his sister no longer being ostracized for being a squib.
PERSONALITY
Favorites: Muggle creations - especialy in the arts, those big crooners such as Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Tap dancing, musicals, American novelties, Quidditch, drawing with his sister - she's excellent but he can't draw to save his life, and the concept of 'Superheroes'.
Distastes: People who are prejudiced, people who don't pay any attention to art, Germans (the hypocrisy had to show up sooner or later), Durmstrang, and failing at the things he's applied himself to.
Secrets, Strengths, & Weaknesses:
Secrets:
- Max isn't really one for secrets - he has no problem with telling others what he thinks, and standing up for what's right. As a result the secrets he has are not really his own - they're others he's been entrusted with. Take for instance his sister Birgitte - he's not allowed to tell anyone about her crush on the boy that used to live down the street. Especially since he's really not across the street anymore, having been smuggled away by Danish Resistance Forces a few years ago.
- Georgie (Max's Mother) is a member of the Danish Resistance - the Wizarding and Muggle levels. She's the Secret-Keeper of a safe house down the road
- Would rather be at any magical school but Durmstrang; fortunately has a bit of sense to not say this outright. He's slightly more subtle about it. (If jumping on a table, shouting 'OH FORGET IT YOU'RE ALL IDIOTS' is subtle).
Strengths:
- A fair enough singer and dancer, but compared to the shit that's on the Wizarding stations? He rocks (excuse the anachronism please). Acting - he's not so good on, his own emotions carrying through with things. But that would be weaknesses so moving on.
- Has a fair amount of confidence in himself which in the in the long run isn't a good thing - this is completely undermined by the fact that whenever something goes badly for him, he fails at something or he's told that he's simply not good enough he goes into paranoia mode. Literally can't do anything else but focus on that one aspect (or aspects) that have been criticized. Basically his confidence works until he's handed the test paper back - he can admit he makes mistakes but knows, deep down that they're wrong. His criticism of himself tends to only end when he reaches the 'epiphany' that it's the other side that's wrong. (Not that they always are, that's just how his psychosis works)
- In the realm of 'pure magic' - Max's got a decent amount of raw power.
Weakneses:
- Quite possibly the worst seeker ever - during a practice. One wonders how he ever got on the team - until you see him during a game, and you go 'Hey didn't the game start only ten minutes ago...?' Something about the spotlight does it.
- When not obsessed with something, he gets sidetracked easily. He spends more time writing in his journal - whether it be to someone, or some song lyrics, or a letter to his family - then actually listening to lectures. He's poor at most written assignments as a result; but when put to the task can get
- Max is truly ruled by his emotions. It's extremely difficult for him to think before speaking, or to play the subtle games of deceit that exist at Durmstrang. If he's happy - you'll know it. If he's depressed - you'll know it. If he's pissed - you'll know it. Run.
- That mentioned, it's extremely hard for him to keep 'mum' on things completely, and he struggles about this with the few secrets he is entrusted with - they tend to be the most important ones.
- His family. Birgitte and Georgie's letters and packages to him at Durmstrang are the only thing that keeps him from being depressed. Going too long without hearing from them, threats to them, comments about their unconventional upkeeping and/or Birgitte's parentage and skills are dangerous.
- Oh, and in case it wasn't obvious - crying in public? It's not a wimpy thing. Don't yell at him to get a spine - you're the wimp that's afraid to show your emotions.
Detailed Personality: The thing about Max is that he's ruled by his emotions. There's no mystery about him - he's an easy to read kind of guy simple when it comes to the world. He struggles with secrets and subtlety - he's blunt, and when he tries not to be (it does happen - such as the answer to your best friend's question 'Isn't this party great?') he fumbles and hits an awkward state. Plainly said - Max is at his best when straightfroward and definitely at his most natural.
He's normally a friendly person and at first meeting will be open and welcoming regardless of the circumstances. Just don't let him know about your prejudices - as there's nothing that's makes him angries. One might say he's a hypocrite in having a prejudice against prejudiced people. He says he's justified.
A lover of the arts - music moves Max. The fact that the Wizarding World hasn't taken advante of it is mind boggling. Max can't understand why this is an undeveloped part of magical theory as well as it's part in history. Because of this, he does what he can to drop hints - not subtle in the slightest - left and right about the joys of muggle art. Especially music - Max is a huge crooner's fan, and it can easily be said that anyone who's lived with him the past five years would know all of 'That Old Black Magic' by now.
Lastly, Max does have a driving force - and that like most teenagers is the desire to make it big one day. He wants to be remembered, unlike his deceased father and uncle - who only a few close friends can name, not making it long lasting. Max wants his fame to live on after he dies. Current thoughts on how to accomplish this - becoming an auror, at least as a first step. But that's not to say he'd ditch that the first chance if it meant he could have a career (guaranteed) as a musician or as a professional Quidditch Seeker.
HISTORY
Character History: The marriage of Georgie White and Sven Olsen was enough to shock everyone - after all the two had been introduced by Georgie's brother and eloped three weeks later - the fact that Sven died six months after said marriage caused a few minds to break. Yes, Sven was an auror - yes it was in the same attack that Georgie's brother Peter died in. Yes, they were on the job together. But Sven had been top of his class - how did a stray spell hit him anyway?
From a young age, Max asked his mother that question and got shoved off replies. "People die when they die, Maxie - now go get your sister before we're late to the park." That was Georgie - straight to the point, and not one to focus on the past. She lived in the moment and encouraged it in her children, from a very young age.
Max and Birgitte grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark - mingling with children of all backgrounds. Georgie made a point of taking them to the theater, the cinema, and museums - 'field trips' which encouraged them to explore at their own pace. The three were a sociable family, having connections with all sorts of people - but noticebly none that were of a specifically strict background.
Durmstrang was not the school Max wished to attend - having grown up on Georgie's tales of Hogwarts, he was convinced that was the school to go to. A clause however in Sven's will stated that it was his very last wish for Max to attend Durmstrang as he had. Max begged, pouted, and grouched for a good three weeks before resigning himself to his fate. A vow years ago by Georgie to make sure that everything on the will was carried through with seemed foolish now.
His first time in a solely wizarding setting, Max was utterly shocked at the lack of arts in the Wizarding World. Maybe it was Durmstrang itself - but the fact that so much muggle culture was shunned merely turned him obstinate. He'd start singing as he walked through the halls, popular tunes by Sinatra or Crosby - bring up Batman and the Joker in a historical discussion on the Goblin Wars. All Max wanted was to make an impact - and hey, this seemed easier and faster than becoming an auror like his Dad and Uncle anyhow.
Within the last few years, his household has become much less of a friendly easy going place, transforming to a minor headquarters for the Danish Resistance. Georgie and quite a few of her wizarding friends worked to use their powers to help smuggle out those hunted down by the Nazi's occupying the city.
SAMPLES
First-Person:
Shit, shit, shit, shit - why aren't we getting muggle papers here again? The Daily Prophet is beyond inadequate at this time. Don't you realize - any of you realize that your families could be dyingout there?
Oh, right. 'Scuse me. None of you care, right? You've forgotten there's a world outside of your school. You're just a bunch of prats.
I hate hearing of things that happened a week ago. I need a flower service....and a record player...
Third-Person:
He could hear her sniffling down the hall. It was hard to tell with Birgitte if it was on purpose or not, but in any case Max fell for it. Groaning as he got out of bed, he grabbed a shirt from the floor and threw it on. Socked feet pounding on the wood, he made his way to his sister's door. He didn't pause to knock, instead pushing it open - they never locked their doors.
It wasn't surprising to see her curled up on the floor, flipping through a book of pictures he'd taken at Durmstrang the past couple of years. Max fheaved a tremendous sigh, and made his way over to her, flopping down.
"Come on, Birgitte. It's too late for this."
She refused to look at him, instead flipping another page, "Nej, I'm not tired."
"Doesn't matter," said Max, tugging at the album. She relinquished it with no fight, still pouting. "Come on, Birgitte. It's only two more years, and then I'm done."
"It's still two years," Birgitte finally looked at him. "Two whole years and it's just Georgie and me here. And whoever they bring in."
He sighed again, clapping the book shut. "And I'm back for the holidays and I write you every chance I get." He got up, offering a hand to her which she took. "It's not my fault that it's taking longer for the owl's to get through with the Nazis...." His grip slackened, but Birgitte simply yanked herself up, jolting him.
"I'm going to miss you."
Simple, but that was how they all were - straight and to the point. He pulled her into a hug, ruffling her hair with the hand not holding the album. "I'm going to miss you too, Birgitte. Like always."
