A long, long weekend.

Friday was my regular day off and today was a holiday, so with four days off what was a girl to do? My parents and I decided to visit Biltmore in Asheville, NC. There aren't enough words to describe its grandeur. It's actually a bit frightening, I think, how big that place is! But it is certainly beautiful and I'm glad we finally visited. Several years ago, we had planned a family Christmas trip there, but the morning we were to leave we woke up to an ice storm. Snowed in and without any power, we had to cancel out trip. We plan on returning in the spring to see Biltmore in all its floral glory!

We spent all of yesterday driving back, as we went through the Blue Ridge Mountains in search of autumn colors. It's a bit early for leaf peeping, which was a little disappointing, but we found satisfaction in some of the higher elevations where the leaves had turned. Driving through the mountains takes forever, and we didn't time it very well, so we didn't arrive back at my parents' house until almost midnight. Which was fine for me, as I still had today off, but my poor dad . . . anyway, I was going to leave after lunch but I ended up sticking around until after dinner to help my mom with some yardwork. Now it's time for bed, so I'll have to update again tomorrow with more Biltmore gushing and pictures from the weekend. Just wanted to send out a little wave, in the meantime! :)

[Btw, as I was driving back from my parents' house, I thought the Transformers soundtrack would provide the perfect backdrop. Turns out the music was a little too perfect. About half an hour into my drive, I realized I was very tense and almost stressed. Which is kind of odd because, apart from the usual traffic, it's a pretty stress free drive. I'm so used to driving this route that it's practically mechanical at this point. Anyway, after some self-reflection, I realized that I was gripping the wheel, gritting my teeth, and had adopted a determined demeanor. That's when it hit me: the soundtrack had swept me up in its music, and I was now driving off into the twilight, tackling my drive as if it was some battle to be won! LOL. I am so silly, I amuse myself sometimes. :)]
