And I know you've all missed me rambling about them this season too. ;)
This afternoon, H and I saw
The Virginia Opera's production of
Eugene Onegin. We had a great time! Although already familiar with the opera, we could never hear it one too many times. As H says, "It's Tchaikovsky; how can you not love it?" Eugene Onegin's refrain is a favorite of mine, and I'm sure I'll be humming it for the rest of the night. There are worse music to have stuck in one's head though, so no complaints here.
Happily, the opera was also beautifully performed. The singers were enjoyable. The staging a delight. [The two ballroom scenes were favorites; the costumes = eye candy.] I was especially impressed given my experience with the Met last season. This stage was about 1/6 of the Met's and they also didn't have six stages waiting and available to swap in and out to do set changes, but they made creative work with what they did have. I liked how they incorporated some of the set changes into the story, and I also liked this nifty little house that spun from scene-to-scene. In conclusion . . .
An excellent opera + An excellent production = An excellent afternoon. :D
