January Games Week IV: Fortune Telling

Jan 28, 2016 12:20

It's the last week of January! Which means it's time for our last game, a new one that I'll just refer to as "fortune telling" for lack of a more creative title. Here's how it works ( Read more... )

Here's the rest:

The second half of the spread highlights a contributing influence that might be at play. The Hierophant suggests that he'd be well served to seek out greater/deeper knowledge and follow traditional institutional paths rather than blazing new trails. At present, the Moon suggests that those around him perceive him to be behaving in a chaotic way driven by fear and (potentially illusory) apprehensions. Whether this is actually true or not depends on whether he's channeling the energy of the Hierophant already but not conveying it clearly to those around him, or whether he needs to shift gears to act more in line with it. The Seven of Cups reinforces this contrast between peace/acceptance and fearfulness. The image on the card is that of a figure being presented with seven cups, each bearing strange and fantastical items. He has the opportunity at this juncture to push away these fantasies and accept the grounding influence of the Empress and the rest suggested by the Four of Swords. Whether he does or doesn't will settle another turning point in his life, symbolized by the Wheel of Fortune, though what the outcome of rejecting the opportunity to rest and be comforted isn't exactly made clear.

Julia:
1--Judgment
2--Nine of Wands
3--Nine of Cups
4--King of Swords
5--Strength
6--Two of Pentacles
7--Ten of Wands
8--Ace of Cups
9--King of Wands
10--Death

There's that pesky Death card I was expecting to crop up sometime! However, in the context of this spread, the meaning of it is less grim/dark and instead implies that there's a potential for transition, to put an end to one chapter and start a new one, so to speak. This reading of the card is strongly encouraged by the card present in the first position, at the heart of the matter--Judgment. Judgment speaks to being cleansed and forgiven and being reborn/starting over in the process. The Nine of Wands in the second position suggests that this has been achieved through real perseverance and determination. The King of Swords suggests that she has recently made a key decision or taken strong action, with the Nine of Cups implying that this choice has been made in favor of her unconscious/private desires for satisfaction and happiness. The fruit of this choice, the force entering her life, is that of the Two of Pentacles, which represents not only managing to find a balance in life, but breaking loose and having fun while doing so. The ultimate, long term result of this choice is implied by the Strength card: the power to endure further trials and express feelings of compassion, kindness, and empathy.

The Ten of Wands suggests, however, that she's currently too caught up in the finer details of her situation (and perhaps of her recently made choice) to realize that the atmosphere around her is changing. This change is reinforced by the Ace of Cups, which implies that her current environment is one that has the potential to overflow with emotional closeness and feelings of love. The King of Wands in the ninth position suggests that she take action in accordance with its creative energy--she might be well served by taking a risk or taking the lead position, letting go of that defensive apprehension seen earlier in the Nine of Wands. By doing this, she can reap the benefits of the change/transition implicated by the Death card, those benefits namely being a fresh start and absolution (Judgement) as well as new reserves of strength and wisdom (Strength).

Voila! Keep in mind, these are just my interpretations of what the cards mean when put together; there's plenty of room for reinterpretation and further nuance. Anyway, I hope you have fun with them! ^__^

Thank you! (You see, I really, really would not have a clue, I can't tell you how much of a clue I wouldn't have had, even with the links). But thanks for going through all of that when I know rl is taking up your time.

I'll have to look at it to see what I can make of it, but Charles's really is amusingly exact as to his situation in HotR, especially at the beginning. Anything canon will fit here! And, poor Charles, I should write him more. i like him and Anna a lot & I've been abandoning them both lately for writing daft Edward/Julia AUs.

No worries! It was a welcome break. Eheh.

Yeah, as I was drawing Charles's, I was thinking of how eerily well it might work...
