The Balcony: Danni, Moon

Apr 28, 2005 20:35

[OOC: Continued from HEREMoon smiled at Danni's response to her question, and was relieved at the tangible change in the atmosphere. With Danni suddenly a lot closer to her, and the sound of the rain filling her ears, Moon settled into the conversational silence that had arisen. Her mind was unusually quiet, and it drifted idly until Danni spoke ( Read more... )

There were a few minutes where neither girl spoke, and the only sound was the soft splattering of the rain. Danni's embrace was warm and soothing, and Moon found herself relaxing more.

The silence was finally broken by Danni, her tone of voice bright and flippant, chasing away whatever atmosphere had been surrounding them. Moon felt awkward again.

"Oh, they were very nice," was Moon's reply - perhaps a little too formal and polite - "the decorations were lovely." Moon stopped talking, this was not the conversation she wanted to have - though what she did want, she did not know. All she knew was that it suddenly felt like they were dancing circles around each other. What was going on here?

"Danni, I..." Moon started talking, but without knowing what she was going to say next. She seemed to do that a lot recently, and she faltered. "I'm sorry, it's just that I... um, am tired, it's been a long day, hasn't it?" Moon turned as she spun her tale, slipping gradually out of Danni's embrace. "I think I should go to bed."

Moon started to move away, feeling clumsy and out of place, but she paused, and turned to look at Danni again. "Um... goodnight?" she said, her voice a little unsure.

It seemed that Danni's accidental attempt at small talk had crashed and burned, and Danni felt sad suddenly at the thought of leaving Moon for the night as she said goodnight. Sometimes she wished she could just keep her big mouth shut. Maybe if she could just be quiet with Moon and enjoy the silences rather than fear them then maybe... she didn't know what would happen, but she wouldn't feel like such a fool right now.

"I guess it has been a long day." Danni said, realising that she also felt a bit tired. However, if it meant spending time with Moon she would gladly stay up all night. She didn't want the night to end, she wanted to spend more time with Moon, just holding her. She knew like earlier there were baser instincts hidden underneath, but as of yet she didn't know how to respond to them, even if she could. She had no idea what would happen if things ever progressed any further with Moon. However, for now, she just wanted to hold her. But how could she say that? She felt that she would sound so stupid.

"It's a shame the night has to end so early." Danni said, with a sincere smile on her face. "I could walk you back to your room, if you like? No worries if not, I mean I know it's not exactly miles away." She made an uncomfortable joke and regretted it the moment it had passed her lips. It was her defense against rejection though, as she didn't want Moon to think her feelings were hurt if Moon just wanted to be alone.

Moon had not expected much other than a return goodnight, despite the slight question in her voice, and the offer of being walked to her room caught her off-guard. It also struck her as strangely chivalrous, confusing her even further as to just what was going on with Danni tonight.

"Um, sure... if you like?" she mumbled, then felt like an idiot for saying it like that. "I mean, I don't mind." No, that did not make it any better. Moon blushed and went quiet, close to vowing never to speak ever again if all she could do was make a fool of herself. Slowly she turned, and headed back towards the office complex.

Danni was surprised at Moon accepting her offer. She still felt like a complete dork for asking, but for some reason as long as she was in Moon's company everything was okay, and the longer she stayed with her the better.

Danni knew that perhaps there could still be people around as herself and Moon walked through the office complex, so she tried to remain as relaxed as she could. Acting all tense was only going to give people reason to be suspicious, and if Moon was desperate to keep things quiet, the besta way to behave would be to be completely relaxed and cool with everything, despite the whirlwind that she felt inside.

Before Danni knew it, herself and Moon were outside Moon's room. She had been focusing so hard on being cool and collected that she had not noticed her surroundings at all. Now was probably the moment where she would definately have to say goodnight. she hoped that one day she could spend the night with Moon. Not doing anything in particular, just to hold her as she slept, and just to make sure that Moon was the first thing she saw when she woke up on a morning. Danni knew she was falling for Moon badly, and she felt powerless to stop it, she didn't even think she wanted to.

"Well..." Danni said quietly, feeling awkward as they were still in the open, and not really sure what to do. she wouldn't go in Moon's room without an invite, and she was certain that she wasn't going to get asked in for coffee or anything. "I guess you probably want to be alone now, what with being tired. I think we could all use a good night's sleep."

As they had walked through the Mall in cmoplete silence, Moon couldn't help wondering if there was really a point to it. Still, she could not stop herself feeling just a little touched at the gesture, even though she was ever aware of being seen by other people.

Soon enough they were stood outside her room, and Moon could sense that Danni was feeling awkward too. All she could do was nod submissively in response to Danni's comments - but she couldn't just leave it that. She hesitated, wondering if she should maybe invite Danni in to her room - but then what? Would they both just sit there feeling awkward and having meaningless conversation?

In the end, Moon took a deep breath, and made to turn into her room, but her feet would not move from the spot where she stood. Despite feeling awkward and confused, Moon was still reluctant to walk away from Danni. She stalled, fiddling with the fabric of her door curtain.
"Thank you again... for this," she said slowly, giving Danni a brief but sincere smile before finally turning away. "Goodnight."
