"Great!" Trudy's demeanor seemed to brighten just as soon as Dee
agreed to help, heading to the sink and rinsing out a sponge, grabbing an extra dish rag and walking off into the Extra Cafe with Dee. "So," she began, trying to take her mind off of everything and finding it suddenly hard to strike up a conversation that didn't include Patch, or Hawk

She was snapped out of her thoughts as Trudy spoke. Picking up an empty cup that had been oddly placed on the seat of a chair and moving to place it with the dishes on the counter, Dee turned to her.
"Off time?" That was a really good question, actually. "Well, unlike with chore rounds and what not, there really isn't a schedule to patrolling. We - or rather I, since Lex has been somewhat scarce when it comes to his duties as of late - patrol when we feel it's needed, especially when activity on the streets with the Color Wars still about gets hectic. When I'm not doing that... I guess I'm either off somewhere thinking or hanging around Patch in the hospital." She shrugged, wiping the water off another table.
Patch was a touchy subject right now, for since his odd conversation with Jack about that Zandra girl, Dee had slipped into a tunnel of confusion where he was concerned. And she wasn't up to discussing him. She and Patch had finally worked up the courage to be with each other and she didn't want to voice her doubts and mess things up.
Quickly, she changed the subject before Trudy could inquire about Patch. "So, how's Brady?"

Patch came up and Trudy felt the tense ball in the pit of her stomach, as much as she knew it was rude to not ask about Patch now that Dee had brought him up, if they were going to girl talk and all of that, Trudy really really didn't want to talk about him right now. Talking about Patch would inevitably bring up the conversation about Tai-San and the stairs, about Hawk, and that was just a place she didn't want to go. The whole point of this cleaning was to keep her mind off of it, and having Dee around was supposed to be a helpful, friendly added distraction.
Thankfully, she brought up Brady and Trudy's eyes instinctively wandered to the doorway of her room before looking to Dee with a smile, "Oh, she's sleeping now, of course, but she's great. She's really growing, it's," her eyes glazed over as she stood there wiping down the table, thinking about how tiny she'd been when they'd first been in the Mall, just after Trudy had had her, all of the things they'd been through together, and to see her as this young, ambitious, rambunctious person with a growing personality, it was nearly mind boggling.
"She's um, it's just really amazing how fast kids grow these days, how fast time flies. It doesn't feel like it's been, gosh, four years, but it really has," she gave her a slightly crooked smile and waited for her to finish drying the table before moving with her to the Main Cafe and starting in here. "It's going to be so sad leaving the Mall, especially for her, you guys are all her family, I know she loves all of you, especially Mouse, who adores you, and of course my family is here, but, it's really for the best," Trudy didn't even realize she hadn't announced this yet, that Dee didn't know what she was talking about, but sometimes when she brainstormed it leaked simply right out of her mouth and into conversation.
