Salene:Tucking Flower and Willow in

Apr 04, 2005 06:40

Salene left Flower and Willow in the back of the Extra Cafe, walking quickly past everyone as she headed for the stairs. Tears were stinging her eyes, the last thing she wanted was to let the girls see her cry over what they'd said. It wasn't their fault she was upset, they were children, they had said what was on their minds, and if there was anything Salene knew about children it was that they were honest to a degree, they couldn't help it. It still hurt her to know that some of them wanted to leave, that something had happened to scare them into thinking about leaving. That on top of how Macy had reacted, it all sunk hard on her heart and she couldn't help it, the tears came easily.

Wiping the tears off of her face as she took the stairs quickly, Salene headed straight for the girls room, ignoring the fact that the decorations for the wedding were still up, that was just one more thing she had to work on cleaning up. Coming to a stop in the doorway of the girls room, Salene took a deep breath and sniffled, Sniveling little cow, who cares? Life doesn't revolve around you and what happens! You think anyone around here cares if your little boyfriend stays, or if you do? Everyone would be happier without you around! Salene pulled the drawer to the dresser open roughly, growling low in her throat and willing the thoughts to go away. Strength! Have faith in yourself! her own inner voice commanded, drowning out that one that sounded so much like her Mom.

Pulling out a pajama set for Willow, Salene opened another drawer and was glad to see that Flower had indeed unpacked already. Pulling out her pajamas, Salene unfolded both of them and placed them at the end of the bed. She was surprised that they didn't mind sharing a bed, they had nearly insisted on it, but she wouldn't object. If they needed two beds later, she was positive she could find them something, and if they didn't, well it saved on resources anyway. She knew someday they'd want their own beds, and even rooms, but she was grateful that they were so compliant now. And what if they want to move away? Think of the resources you'll save if they all go away! Pouting, Salene unfolded and refolded both of the pajama sets, hating the inner workings of her mind in that moment. What horrible thoughts, she'd never want them to go away, not ever, and now she felt completely selfish for even thinking that.
