Conversations

You know, I've noticed additional aspects in my lifestyle, particularly in communication. It's become increasingly easy to sit behind a computer and converse through an instant messanger. I can take my time replying, organizing and carefully choosing my words while doing several other things. It's easy to converse online, but it's a superficial form of communication. It's no better than email. The person at the other computer will never see your face or your expressions, and vice versa. But, it does have one thing going for it--it helps a person improver grammar and spelling!

The same goes for places like LiveJournal, myspace, facebook...

Sitting down with someone, face to face, and talking has become increasingly difficult. It takes a great deal of active listening to keep a conversations going. There isn't much time to reply, and if you take too long, the other person/party will think you're uninterested, if not bored. I'm also shy, which doesn't help matters. I guess socializing was one of those skills I never picked up as a child. Maybe that's why I have trouble expressing myself in person, whether or not it's with one person or more. I don't have the saftey net of a computer, which is something I'm having a hard adjusting to.
