Annual Celebrations

Aug 23, 2008 17:46

I can believe that this is a busy time of year. So many people have had their birthdays come and while some are only a few days away. Some of you know that I don't celebrate my birthday...well, not quite the way most people do. I don't party hard, get drunk, or do whatever most people do becuase I'm not them. I do 'celebrate,' it's just in my own way. Why feel good for a six hour party when you can feel good about yourself indefinitely? So what do I do on my birthday--I'm shocked it's next weekend--well, I'm glad someone asked.

A few years ago, I learned to look past the materialistic aspects. I like to spend my time reflecting on the past year, sometimes with friends or family, about experiences both good and bad. It's nice to see where you've gone in life over the past year. Take the time to see how much you've changed. Recall the good things in your life. Think about the people you met and the impact you've had on each other. Think of the places you've visited. Think of the events--good and bad--that had a profound effect on you.

And you know what the wonderful thing about this is? It works for every kind of anniversary.
