The land that taste forgot

It’s not the land of lost content
It isn’t Shangri La
It’s not the market in Tashkent
Or the crazy crosstime bar
It surely isn’t Paradise
And it’s not a parking lot
It’s something that’s not very nice
It’s the land that taste forgot

They set up a diversion
To turn the cars away
So not a single person
Can drive this road today
And now you’re stranded here alone
Your prospects aren’t so hot
You’re stuck without a telephone
In the land that taste forgot

Medusa’s house of pleasure
Has caught you in its spell
You’re a man of endless leisure
And you know her all too well
A thousand men have breathed their last
Upon this very spot
But a thousand more come thick and fast
To the land that taste forgot

You punched the alligator
Then you hid inside the cave
You said you’d see them later
If they learned how to behave
The fat man’s short one chromosome
His genes are in a knot
No wonder he feels quite at home
In the land that taste forgot

The rabbits here forgot to hop
The birds forgot to fly
You shopped the fat man to the cop
But he had an alibi
Medusa turned your heart to stone
As part of her great plot
And you just repeat what you’ve been shown
In the land that taste forgot

The rain fell down in litres
As Medusa stood there wet
She came outside to meet us
But she hasn’t found us yet
And now you have a tricky choice
To be stabbed or hanged or shot
For having a dissenting voice
In the land that taste forgot

You sang the Wabash Cannonball
While eating sirloin steak
You found the truth behind it all
Was written on the cake
But when they bought you burritos
The chilli was too hot
So you sat there eating Cheetos
In the land that taste forgot

You burned the fat man in the fire
Then froze him in the ice
You said he was a liar
When he said your hair looked nice
So he ran away to East Podunk
And on a vacant lot
He built a shop to sell old junk
From the land that taste forgot

Medusa had an argument
With some of her own snakes
You told her that you were hell bent
And that you’d got what it takes
So you drew your silver dagger
And you cut the Gordian knot
Then you strolled off with a swagger
To the land that taste forgot

That land has kept you to this day
You say you’re doing well
But every time I talk to you
You sound as bored as hell
You don’t know hope or love or fear
And if you do, so what?
You’ve made your bed and it’s right here
In the land that taste forgot.
