I think we made a breakthrough tonight. Except for Tuesday night, Sid hasn't really let anyone touch or cuddle him. He has been happy to come out and play with the laser, and a cat toy that looks like a tail, but only at a distance. About 45 minutes ago he came downstairs. I think to explore, but also perhaps to look for creatures that might be awake and want to interact. He wandered about getting into stuff (I think that is what kittens were built for) with Puck occasionally hissing at him for invading his (Puck's) special space. Eventually he climbed up onto the window sill near my desk (I was in the other room basically ignoring him) and started this pitiful mewling, as if he were in trouble and could not find a way down. I suspect that this was a ploy to allow him to submit to being picked up and carried, and still not lose any independance or face. (Yes, I project like hell, but this is a cat we are talking about, and they think they have dignity and gravity, we know better) So I managed to carry him back to the landing of the stairway, where he lept out of my arms, and ran all the way back up one step. I sat back down with a random book, began reading while once again ignoring Sid. That is when he broke and came over to be petted, and scritched, and to mold himself against my body, and purr, and face mark my hand.
There is still a long way to go, he is not thrilled with being held, though I can cuddle him as he lies on his back asking for a tummy rub, but the carrying and holding thing is just not in the cards tonight.
Mind you this morning he wouldn't come out for breakfast and had to be given room service again. This afternoon he was jumping up to the table to eat, or just explore. I think he is going to be happy here.
That is all, though since I don't carry the camera around with me, maybe he can continue doing cute things long enough for me to get a picture..
