ugh... so tired, but fun weekend/week so far

I hate it when I wake up so tired that I just feel sick.  Thats what happened this morning.  I only got about 3 hours.  We stayed until almost midnight at Felix's last night when usually we leave by 10:30.  Normally going to bed after midnight and waking up early for work the next day doesn't effect me too much so long as it doesn't become a pattern, but for some reason I just couldn't fall asleep last night.  On a normal night, I get tired around 10-10:30, read for a little while then go to sleep.  Sometimes if I stay up through the tired period, I end up getting a second wind and can't get to sleep.  Last night I was awake until around 2:30am and then woke up at 4:30 then again at 5:30, whats up with that?  I can't just crash after work since I am going out to dinner tonight with some co-workers.

So yesterday was supposed to be the follow-up shoot for this gaming show Dave and I volunteered for, however it got cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.  I know it was probably annoying for Jason, but to be honest, I was glad not to have to do it yesterday.  I got sunburned over the weekend and my face was all peely (eeeewwwwwww!!!!!) not the way you want to look on TV/Internet.

Now weekend.

This past weekend we went to visit Nicole in Queens for the 4th(long weekend).  On Saturday morning we went to Coney Island to see the Nathans International Hot Dog Eating Contest.  I was kind of surprised how many people packed in to see it, I mean some people actually travelled considerable distance to go to this event.  We were pretty far back since we only got there an hour before the event, I wasn't about to get up really early and wait hours to see people chug hot dogs, but we stood back against the metal police barrier thing they put up so people weren't spilling back into the stores.  I was able to get an okay view by sitting on the railing.  We got to see a new world record set as Joey Chesnut at 68 hotdogs in 10 minutes, thats more then one every ten seconds, I don't know how those people do that, or how they prepare for it without weighing 400 pounds.  I guess they drink lots of water or eat lots of low calorie food to stretch their stomachs.  This 105 pound woman ate 41 dogs which set a new record for women.

A slightly entertaining element of the day, that was really more annoying at the time was the store owner of the store behind where we were standing/sitting on the temporary fence.  His store was the classic definition of 'junk store', complete with cheap inflatable toys depicting TV shows that were popular over a decade ago.  Anyway, the owner of the store, who had no real authority whatsoever, kept yelling at people and trying to tell people what to do and where to stand.  He kept telling people not to sit or lean against the barrier since he was afraid it would fall over and damage his beachballs, which were actually not even close enough for anything to actually fall on.  I think he just wanted to feel important because he also kept telling people not to walk on a PUBLIC sidewalk.  Before the contest, somebody was using one of those T-Shirt launchers to launch T-Shirts into the crowd and one went into the store and I was actually sad that it didn't break anything, not that there was actually anything breakable in there to begin with.  From the look of the place, they probably make most of their money selling weed and fake IDs/passports.

At night we went to the Macy's fireworks on the Hudson River.  We got there about three hours early and brought chairs to sit on while we waited.  We brought dinner and drinks so we could picnic while waiting.  The show itself was really good, even if the view was partially obscured by trees.  Apparently you needed special tickets to get into the park for the better seats.  They basically had six shows going off at once from three barges in the river so you had fireworks exploding all around you.  I wish my camara didn't die right as the show was starting, I need to hit up Nicole for her pictures.
