Everything seemed the same today, which meant that either the hotel's games had passed him by or he simply hadn't figured out what the game was yet. Kia couldn't shake the feeling that it was the latter, given how much he'd been toyed with since his return. He munched on a hamburger he'd got in the food court section and sat on a chair where he ( Read more... )

He never was going to stop feeling relieved when he spotted Kia again, was he? And he wasn't really going to stop expecting not to. After their last run in with the hotel's game that had pushed their relationship into even stranger territory, Ran wasn't exactly sure how he felt. Or...maybe the problem was still he was sure but wary of that feeling.

...whatever.

It wasn't simple. It wasn't logical.

All he knew was something eased when he saw the familiar head of spiky gray hair. Kia was looking surprisingly thoughtful, even as he ate.

Ran walked over. "If you keep thinking like that you could break something."

And then he smiled.

He wiped his fingers off on a napkin before starting on the fries that went with the burger. The food here wasn't the greatest, but it was free, warm, and kept him full. By now, Kia could pick out the sound of Ran's shoes against the floor. He'd heard it plenty of times and the sound always made him excited. Ran was still here. The hotel hadn't split them up again.

Kia blinked once at the words and looked more than little confused when Ran actually smiled. He never smiled, not even in bed when he'd hit his peak because of Kia. It was a nice sight, but decidedly odd and not what he'd come to expect from Ran.

"That's the first time I've seen you smile," he remarked after he swallowed his fries. Did it mean that he'd figured out some of what was in his head after the mess they'd both been left in last time?

Kia's confused placed a perplexed expression on Ran's face, cutting the smile short. What? Was there something on his face?

He hadn't figured out anything; he was just glad to see Kia. They still had some more time. Ran sometimes wondered why they didn't plan to meet up again, sooner than a few days or a week later. Though usually they needed some time apart to recover from how intense just being around each other could get- no thanks to the hotel.

"Really?" He frowned, even that more expressive than normal. "Hn." There was a slight shrug.

"How are you?"

There was nothing on Ran's face, though there might be a bit of ketchup on Kia's from his quick eating.

It was nice to see Ran acting like this for a change, even if it was just because of the hotel playing games. Kia reached up to take Ran's hand and squeezed it lightly.

"I'm pretty good. I don't think the hotel's doing much to me for once." Was the personality change all that was wrong with Ran? Kia hoped so.

"Kii~a!" Have a horned boy suddenly launching himself at your shoulders and clinging, Kia.

"I haven't seen you in forever! Have you been hiding?"

He smiled, laughed, and shook his head. "I haven't been hiding, Zelkova. I did end up going home for a couple of weeks, but I've been here the rest of the time."

Kia had been here getting himself into one giant, emotional mess all because of one redhead.

"Ooh, you got to go home? Lucky." The boy pouted, letting go and taking a seat beside him. "How have things been going with you? It's been so boring here."

Kia laughed. "It's been...complicated for me. Things happened that I never expected to." That was a major understatement.
