Shepard hates dresses.

All right, maybe that's not strictly true. She likes the way they look on other women - but they just don't suit her. Her idea of formalwear is Alliance mess dress, or a tailored pantsuit if she has to wear civvies. And maybe it's because the hotel is so contrary that the only thing it's left her to wear tonight is... a Read more... )

The note had been slipped under his door in the small hours of the morning, well before he woke up and stumbled to the shower. He'd contemplated it a long time, the suggestion that a beautiful woman would be waiting for him at a certain time in a certain place for... a date, of all the stupid things. He hadn't been on a date in... well, as long as he could remember - not a real one at least, one that wasn't undercover.

Already running late, he decides he may as well give it shot... why not play along, it wasn't like he really had anything vastly better to be doing. Even if it didn't go well and he didn't connect with this mystery person there was a whole night ahead of him. He slips into a basic blue suit and even adds a thin back tie before walking to the restaurant. Standing just outside the doors he'd been escorted to, looking out onto the veranda, he removes his shades and slips them into his pocket - getting his first look of at this stranger.

It's a woman, from behind a very attractive... if not somewhat familiar... woman. Licking his lips, he opens the doors and steps out to the cool evening air. "Waiting for someone?"

The voice strikes her as immediately familiar, and she turns - yes, that's who she thought it was. Despite herself, a very small smile turns the corner of her mouth, and she may look a little (just a little) less uncomfortable.

"Might be." Her brows arch. "Looking for someone?"

If he's her companion for the night... well, he's late, but she's not gonna get on his case about it.

It's certainly an unexpected surprise - though a nice one. He's never seen Shepard quite like this, dressed up but obviously as uncomfortable as he'd be in the little black dress. He flashes her small smile, the corners of his lips turning up as he admires her openly.

"Always." He says with a soft chuckle, holding up the note that had been slipped under his door, "but tonight, with a rather curious reason." Michael shifts on his feet and steps close to the table, picking up the open bottle of wine to freshen her glass without sitting down. "If you want to found."

She's perceptive enough that she doesn't miss the admiring glance, and though she certainly doesn't preen beneath it, she doesn't shy away from it either. The dress is revealing by her standards, leaving her arms and shoulders bare as well as her legs below the knees, but she knows that's the point. To draw attention. Shepard isn't sure if she'd like the look he's giving her if he were anyone else, but she doesn't mind it from him.

Her smile broadens, very slightly, as she sees the note in his hand. "So you got one too." And then, a little teasingly, "I guess we're stuck with each other."

There are definitely worse people she could be stuck with.

"I could think of worse people to be stuck with." He shrugged, "Besides, it beats the hell out of the last time you surprised me."

Michael lets out a soft chuckle and invites himself to the seat opposite her, pouring a glass of wine for himself. "But I do believe that we are the victims of a rather obvious prank."

She shrugs a little at his words, taking a sip from her glass. "I'm sure this is the hotel's idea of fun," she says dryly. Although she could think of worse pranks, too, if she were to be totally honest.

Leaning back in her chair, Shepard flashes him a broader smile. "Besides, if I recall correctly, someone owes me a steak dinner."

Yeah, she remembers that.
