Erk really wished he knew how it was that his house ended up being the one to host the obligatory Wild Teen Party ( Read more... )

She's got no recollection of arriving here, nor any idea why she'd want to. The party schtick went out with Jimmy Stones and her magically disappearing bank account. There must have been a good reason, her mind assures her, she just can't remember it. That should be more disturbing than it is.

As it is, she's more concerned with maneuvering through the writhing mass of teenage hormones without getting mauled than she is figuring out why she's doing it in the first place. Once she actually breaks free to a slightly quieter part of the house, her attention is grabbed by what looks to be a kindred soul. After only a few moment's consideration, she makes her way over to lean against the wall next to the stairs and offer a small smile. "Gettin' a breather?"

"Something like that." He sighed, looking up at her. He was pretty sure he didn't even recognize this girl. "That and reevaluating my taste in friends, since I know I'm not the one who decided to throw a party at my house."

He shook his head, sighing. "Sorry, don't mind me. I complain a lot," he admitted sheepishly, glancing down.

It's alright, she's definitely sure she's never seen him before. Her smile quirks a bit amused at his remark. "You ought to line 'em all up and make whoever did pay for the damages. Or...lease? For the space?" She crosses her hands behind herself, making her best attempt at sitting on a vertical surface, and laughs. "Well, I'm pretty sure you've got license to complain when people're throwing parties in your house without warning, yeah?"

He shook his head, patting the stair beside him. "You can sit down, you know. But yes, if I could actually find them, I'd have to talk to them about it. At this rate I may not manage to do it until the next time I run into them at school; I think they're avoiding me."

After a moment's consideration...well, she'd been standing all night, so there isn't much considering to do, really. She does offer a grateful smile when she sits, though.

"Well, if they've gone and set this up behind your back I'm not surprised they're avoiding you. Might make it easier to puzzle out which one did it, though."

He shrugged, sighing. "I can talk to them about it later. I don't think they'd pay attention if I tried to do it now." They'd just wave it off and he'd have to bring it up later instead anyway. It wasn't as if chewing them out would magically make them repent and usher everyone out and help him clean up.

She shrugs right back. "Nah, probably not now. Y'could confront them and they could pretend not to hear you, and then you'd just be repeating yourself later and they could hope to get out of it entirely. Possibly even make plans to do it again." She's silent a moment, before glancing over at him. "You could try the 'parents are coming, run for the hills' ruse?"

"Which would probably only chase off the people stupid enough to believe it. I'm not a very good liar, and anyway my parents are probably as likely to join in as to chase them off. They're... a bit odd."

Technically Pent and Louise were only his foster-parents, but he never really referred to them as such, even if he did address them by their names.

She purses her lips thoughtfully. "Well...we could call th'police, and have 'em come by for all the noise? No bluffing or quirky parents involved. Mind...if they're especially grumpy getting dragged out to disperse a party you might want to hide out in the attic or something until they've buggered off."

"It's fine, really." He sighed, shrugging. "And I think calling in a noise complaint for my own house would be a bit odd, honestly. I can put up with it for a night, I was just whining." Sometimes he wished people wouldn't take him quite so seriously when all he wanted to do was complain a bit.

"Not the oddest thing I've seen, though." She shrugs and offers him a sly smile. "I mean, you could be one of the people not invited to the big party the house-owner didn't plan for, advising the owner you don't actually know to sic th'police on you. I think that's pretty up there in the odd bit."

He laughed quietly. "I suppose it would be, yes." He smiled back at her and held out a hand. "Sorry, I'm Erk. I don't think we've met...?" If they had, he certainly couldn't remember it.

She smiles and takes his hand...which isn't quite as easy as it sounds, being two people sitting next to each other on a step that's probably only meant for one plus cargo. "Yeah, I don't think we have. I'm Rose. It's nice t'meet you. After stomping all over your carpets. Sorry about that."

"It's nice to meet you, too, Rose. And I think the carpets will survive - they're used to being walked on." Slightly sardonic humor seemed like a better alternative than continued moping, at least as long as he had company.

"Granted, yeah, but it doesn't mean the like being walked on. Bet they'll want a good long break from being walked on after this, too." Sardonic humor is better than moping in Rose's book. And really, any social interaction that doesn't involve getting sloshed with alcohol of dubious origin is an improvement in her current record.

Not that some of the other partygoers seemed to be concerned with avoiding alcohol, origins dubious or otherwise. Either way, though, Erk nodded. "I suppose you have a point there. At least with the last part - I'm still pretty sure carpet doesn't mind normal walking. Why are we discussing the carpet's feelings, again?"
