The Library of Doom (locked to grimholdkeeper)

The library Inezia found is pretty big. She sees so many shelves in here she can feel herself go weak in the knees. The wizard can't help the way this place thrills her. She is well aware that she might be going a little book crazy here but at least she can remain silent ( Read more... )

Balthazar has always been partial to libraries. One of the first things his master taught him was how to read, and just that seemed like magic at the time. Now he's more used to it, and rarely waxes philosophical about the power of written language, except when he's drunk (he's not, right now). Still, the size and labyrinthine structure of the place is captivating, and he's easily lost in the stacks ( ... )

Inezia hadn't meant to startle him. She had learned long ago since she had started her life out as a bar tendered and the owner of the local inn that startling people bigger than herself was a bad idea.

The spell she has going picks up on that. She eyeballs the point of power she saw then huffs loudly.

"Bloody 'ells, I ain't your enemy," she spits out. "I cast a simple spell to see if there were any truly magical books. I do nae know what is here but I am detecting a high level transfiguration, enchantment, and conjuration spell. I can nae pick up exactly where it is but the level is worrying enough to know it is safest to get the bloody nine hells out of here," she spat out each word with slightly increasing volume. Her hand that isn't lighting up with magic moves to her hip and she glares up at him very sternly.

That's right other wizard, defy her.

The crackle of defensive energy eases off subtly, and he drops his hand. His gaze sweeps over her, trying to size her up, and he's not entirely sure how to process what he's seeing. Tough, certainly, and she seems perfectly sincere, but he can't attest to whether she has the knowledge to back up her conclusions.

He glances around. "You can't pinpoint the exact location?" Where he comes from, that sort of thing would take an additional spell, but he has no idea what source or form of magic she's using. But he is carrying more than one heavy-duty magical item on him, too, and he figures if she's upset because she senses the Grimhold in his pocket he can at least set her mind at ease.

He's not intimidated by the volume of her voice, exactly, but he's willing to humor her, at least to start, so he jerks his head up the aisle. "I think the door's that way."

She should have the knowledge. She is a veteran of one war. Magic had been one of the most sought after resources to keep her world from falling into chaos. As much as she detested fighting she had ended up drafted once she had displayed the fact she was competent after an ancient power had been briefly woken up.

"Nay. It should nae be this indistinct but every time I focus too closely I get overwhelmed by the backlash of 'other' the Hotel gives off. If I focused all me senses I would nae be able to stand on me own," she explained with a shake of her head.

She shakes her head and her hand stops glowing. "Aye. I suppose it is. I lost track of where I was going. Too many books."

She pats herself down and then pulls out a thin and old looking length of wood stuffing it through her belt. Her robes on inspection look like they were once pretty, but there are odd stains on the sleeves and too many signs of repair. She hasn't had time to buy new robes in a long time and she distrusts what the Hotel offers.
