The sound of mangled metallic flesh exploded in Kallen Kozuki's ears as her beloved Guren slashed its enemy into pieces, head radiating from its spread steel palm. The sleek machine whipped around to claw yet another foolish opponent in the face, separating head from neck in one swift movement. Kallen grunted with every effort in the cockpit, sweat coating the exposed parts of her body, piloting suit clinging tight to her slender form while the carnage continued. Finally, the enemy declared a hasty retreat, and a great cheer arose among Kallen's allies. They had won; at great sacrifice, victory had been achieved, thanks in no small part to the ace pilot.
"Not bad, Kallen," the woman bragged to herself, returning to the ship's hangar with a big grin. Hopping out of her Knightmare, she wiped at her brow, perching atop a railing and pondering the events of the day. The commander would surely be proud, and Kallen blushed at the thought of receiving a personal congratulations from the man. Other soldiers were filing out of the machines, too, and she called out to them, "Great job, guys! We gave 'em hell!"
As a member of the renegade Black Knights, Kallen couldn't have been happier. They were fighting for freedom and liberation, causes she very much believed in. The pay wasn't that great, but her fellow soldiers were the closest thing she had to family, and for that, Kallen was grateful. She closed her eyes and simply basked in the moment, unaware of footsteps approaching.
