‘Lady Amanda Grayson’

The name was there, printed in Vulcan green, the same green of her husband’s blood across the pale line of her stomach. It wouldn’t come off. The moment the young navigator had recognised the name she had immediately ran to the shower, hyperventilating, using the scorching temperature of the water and a wash cloth to try to cleanse and remove the name from her body. It didn’t work. To the girl’s horror she only encountered more:

‘Murderer’

‘Incompetent’

‘All your fault’

They were everywhere. Pasha stepped out from underneath the spray of the water and crawled back into what she had now claimed as her own bed, hot tears pricking at the corners of her eyes as she pulled the covers up and over the top of her head, only a few still damp curls giving any indication there was a girl beneath the sheets. “It wasn’t my fault. It wasn’t my fault. There was nothing you could do.” She quietly tried to sooth herself, oblivious to the sound of the bedroom door clicking open.
