The smell of fresh wild flowers... As with anything, that scent easily caught Mesprit's attention, making her turn to the doorway. She could sense something strange about this situation, but she was a Naive little sprite, filled with curiosity as she stepped through the doorway. Unlike other rooms she had been in, there was... a clearing? The Lake Guardian turned in every direction, taking notice of her new surroundings. It wasn't until she looked forward once again when her steps were halted.

Mesprit gasped with awe, completely taken aback by it all. Never before had she seen anything like this before, not even by the shores of Lake Verity. Her golden eyes took in everything - the trees, the unfamiliar yet lovely variety of flora, the sunlight's rays peeking from through the tree canopy - but it was mostly the aroma of fresh, pure air made her smile, causing her to take a deep breath. It was good to have something untainted to fill her lungs for once. "Ah, how...how beautiful..." With an innocent giggle, the pink-haired girl ( ... )

'Untainted' was a relative term. Untainted by man, perhaps, but for those familiar with it, the place reeked of faerie magic. It was what brought the land its unnatural beauty, and was far more dangerous than anything man could conceive of, for it could addle the mind and steal away the senses, especially those of reason and direction.

"I do hope you do not plan to take some for yourself." Tam Lin spoke, suddenly standing before her, the grass and flowers seeming to simply move out of the way of his boots rather than be crushed beneath them. He carried that same taint of magic that flowed through the forest.

"Oh?" The voice startled Mesprit easily, opening her eyes as she let out a surprising gasp; she had been far too entranced by everything around her to have sensed the stranger's presence sooner. She looked up at him, noticing how the plants avoided his footsteps as her gaze met his. There was something about him as well, she figured to herself... but she could ask about that later.

Still, she had to explain her actions to him - it was the right thing to do. She sat up straight, hoping that she wasn't in any sort of trouble. "Ah, no...I was just smelling them, that's all. I didn't mean any harm... It's probably for the best that I don't pick them, isn't it?" She was easily embarrassed with a bit of pink on her cheeks, yet Mesprit's soft-spoken words were nothing but truthful.

"I would not appreciate strangers taking from my home what does not belong to them, no." He answered, taking a few steps toward her. His footfalls silent, he left no leaf or blade of grass disturbed behind him, as if he, too, was a part of the forest itself.

"I also have little appreciation for those who enter my home without my permission." A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. "That's called trespassing, lass."

What, this place was his home? Well, that would explain how the nature around them almost appeared to respect his presence. Mesprit knew better than to steal - which she never had to do before anyway - or even travel into someone else's territory. Of course, such boundaries never existed in Sinnoh, so the Lake Spirit didn't know any better.

"Ah, I'm sorry! I...I didn't know..." She still remained on her knees, although the idea of levitating off of the grass wasn't too far from her mind. "I probably should have asked first, but no one was here and everything was so pretty... still, I'm sorry..." She lowered her head in apology, hoping that he would at least forgive her curiosity somehow.

It only respected him to the point of being a lovely gilded cage. Under normal circumstances, he couldn't leave this forest, but it protected him at the same time. After all, the true master of this forest wanted to be sure that no harm befell her favorite pet.

"Perhaps we can make a deal, then. I am not to allow any to enter this place without paying a fee."

"A deal?" The sprite blinked a couple of times, thinking about what she had. Mesprit had always been asleep deep within her lake, never having anything of value in her possession except for emotions. But she couldn't pay with that - they were far too precious to her, especially with the title of the "Being of Emotion" - but how would she even give them to him when he probably had his own already?

"Oh... I'm afraid I don't have anything you would want from me. I don't really own anything personally..." She felt disappointed, ashamed of herself. What could she possibly give him in return? Her dress was the only other thing she had, but would it be enough for him? As embarrassing as the thought was, a price was a price nonetheless. "...ah, except this dress... It's all I have left to give, I'm afraid..." Her face grew a slightly darker shade of pink, despite the forlorn expression she gave him. "...Will it be enough for you?"

To be honest, the dress did seem rather plain by itself. The jewel on her forehead was interesting, but it did seem rather attached. After a moment of contemplation, he nodded. "Though I doubt it will be worth much."

She let out a sigh to the comment, her lovely head falling into her hands in defeat. Maybe it was out of frustration or perhaps just sheer lack of anything with real value to him that she sighed, but it felt hard to please the mysterious man of the forest. Mesprit was clueless on what else she could do in this dilemma. Well, it was worth a try to offer the impossible... It wouldn't hurt now, would it? "...Well, the only other thing I could offer are emotions, but I...I don't know how I could give them to you as payment..."

She gasped after a quick thought, wondering if maybe he had something in mind. Mesprit was a guest in his home, after all, and it was only fair since she had trespassed into it in the first place. With a look of curiosity and almost pleading, she looked up at him once again. "Um,...but what would you want from me? I'll try to give you whatever I can to pay my debt to you..."
