So, like, after a year's hiatus, I've finally picked up Transformers Prime again. I stopped watching it last year on episode 23, One Shall Fall.
I decided to watch One Shall Rise Part 1 today.
About fifty seconds into it, I was reminded how much I didn't enjoy this series and still don't. I like the art style, the animation is amazing aaand that's about it. Oh. And Knockout. I like him too.
Everything else I don't enjoy. The human element is the biggest and most frustrating part of it. When I watched TF: A, I grew into liking Sari. I hated her at first, despised her for a really long time, then eventually I just got used to her and didn't really mind her by the end of the series.
Transformers Prime, that feeling never went away. Except maybe Fowler. I'm generally meh about him. But Jack, Miko and Raf? Drive me absolutely crazy. I can't exactly recall the rationale they have to hang around the Autobots, because they saw the Bots, now their lives are in danger because the Cons? So...each of them get an Autobot personally assigned to them to protect them...which then puts their lives into even more danger. Brilliant. Good job, Autobots. I don't know, it's stupid logic and none of them particularly interest me and I couldn't care less about them. I want to see more giant robots and less humans. No humans would be preferable, actually.
And even then, I'm not particularly impressed with the Autobot's characterizations. Arcee is somewhat interesting, Bulkhead has never managed to catch my attention, Ratchet NEVER gets to do anything and is ALWAYS getting shown up by the humans, which sends me into a little rage whenever I see it. Why don't we just make this show about the humans and take away all the giant robots instead? Bumblebee can't speak again. Fantastic. No, not really. It was stupid the first time, thanks a lot Bay, and it gets even worse with the whole Raf can understand him. I'm not even going to think about TF:P Wheeljack-
Watching this episode and seeing Megatron grovelling to Unicron was a huge WTFery. Whilst Megatron is an evil bastard, I don't see him as an evil bastard worshiping Unicron cultist like crazy. It just doesn't fit with how I see Megatron. Maybe it's because the dark energon drove him crazy or something. I can't remember. The grovelling thing is Starscream's shtick and I literally cannot see him doing that. Ever. Did Starscream get swapped into his body and no one noticed...?
Unicron's spark beat. UNICRON'S FREAKING SPARK BEAT. That is so stupid I don't even have words-
I could of course, be getting details completely wrong because it's been a year and I'm definitely not going to watch any of the past episodes, unless I'm willing to take the risk that I may throw my laptop out of the window in sheer annoyance. I'm only picking this up again because I know that Smokescreen winds up in the next season and I'm kinda curious to see what they've done to him.
I may not even get there if my reaction to this episode is anything to judge by.
