11 When Junsu got to the main gate, still calling out for Sung Ri, she was already at the end of the street. Junsu knew exactly where she was going and honestly he was not entirely sure if he should follow her or not but he was afraid something might happen to her since it was late and she was alone so he decided to get his motorbike and follow her.
Sung Ri ran as fast as she could and when she got to the end of the road she saw a taxi and got inside.
Ten minutes later she was at Soul's Central Hospital so she gave her last few bills to the taxi driver and left the vehicle, running. At the hospital's reception, she quickly asked for Moon Bin's door room number and as she got the info, she ran to the elevator.
Getting to the floor in which Moon Bin's room was located, she noticed two security guards at his door and then two nurses walking through the corridor so she had an idea and followed them. Seeing the two nurses entering the their locker to change uniforms as their shift ended, she waited for them to get out as as soon as they did so, she entered the room and stole, or rather borrowed one of the uniforms but then she was surprised as she left the room by other nurse, going in.
“What is this? What are you doing?” The woman asked “Are you going to work just now?”
“Y-Yes... I am sorry but I am new here.”
“It figures... this is why I hate newbies. Get to work quickly!” She ordered and Sung Ri nodded immediately while leaving the room and sighing in relief.
As she adjusted her nurse uniform, Sung Ri headed to Moon Bin's room and in order not to look suspicious, she entered the room right beside it for awhile just to pretend she was checking on the patient and left just as quickly, this time going to Moon Bin's room.
The security guards looked at her as she bowed and they followed suit, allowing her to enter. As she did and closed the room behind her, she could not help but smile at her brilliant acting.
Coming back to herself and to the reason why she was there in the first place, she looked at the boy sleeping in the hospital bed in front of her. Sung Ri got nearer and was able to see his bruised face and burst lips. One of his arms was in a cast, possibly broken and she could not refrain from feeling bad for Moon Bin.
She decided to pull a chair then and sit for awhile there however she did not notice that one of its legs was stuck and ended up making a lot of noise. Fortunately none of the guards entered the room to see what was going on however the sound woke Moon Bin up.
“It's okay, you can go back to sleep, Mr. Lee.” She said, trying to disguise her voice and hide her face.
“Sung Ri?” He uttered in a loud tone and she immediately covered his mouth with her hand, telling him not to talk so loud “What are you doing here and why are you dressed as a nurse?” He asked, now in a lower tone.
“You have two security guards outside and I doubt your parents would allow me to come here so I came as a nurse. It really suits me, right?” She said, cheerfully
“Were you worried about me?” He asked, catching her off guard
“Of course not,” She lied “But it's not everyday that you have someone you know showing on tv for almost being kidnapped. How did it happen? They broke all your bones, look at you... Moon Bin-ah, are you messing with dangerous people, now?”
He laughed at her speedy talk, only to gap in pain afterwards “Ah... don't make me laugh, Sung Ri. Of course I'm not 'messing with dangerous people'. This was nothing but how about you?”
“Huh? Me? Considering your state, I am pretty well.” She said
“Really? You don't look too well. You look sad and tired.” He said and sighed then “I guess losing the baby really weakened you”
Sung Ri looked at Moon Bin with a questioning look then and he realized he had talk too much “How do you know I lost the baby?”
“Well, you know... news travel fast.”
“Not in this case because there is not many people knowing what happened.”
“Yoon Jae told me” He said but she just stared at him
“Liar.Yoon Jae only knew about it two nights ago. She came to the hospital the next day which means yesterday and it was impossible for her to have told you because first: she does not have your number and second: She was with me when you went missing. So, who told you?”
“Why are you giving this matter so much importance? I just asked how you were feeling, why does this have to be a questioning now?” He asked, obviously nervous
“The person who told you was the same that did this to you, wasn't it?”
He let out a sigh “What are you talking about? I already said it was Yoon Jae...”
“Just stop it!” She blurted “I know it was not her so don't try to make a fool out of me. The person who told you, did this to you, right?” She said, affirming it more than asking
“Sung Ri...”
“Leave it. I have to go now. I'll try to come again if I have time”
Sung Ri left the room then and quickly passed by the security guards, going to the nurses room again where she changed her clothes.
Right after leaving the hospital and still trying to calm herself down, she noticed it was raining heavily. She tried to call Junsu but her phone was out of battery so she decided to face the pouring rain and head home however she ended up stopping after seeing Junsu in his motorbike, just outside the hospital gate, soaking wet.
She went to him.
“Yah! Do you know how long I've waited here?” He said, obviously blaming her for his state however she did not allow him to talk any further as she slapped him as soon as she approached the boy. He was left with no reaction whatsoever.
“It was you, right?” She asked, accusing tone in her voice
“What are you talking about?”
“You did this to Moon Bin.”
Junsu looked at the girl and he could swear she was almost about to cry with every question she asked “I don't know what you are talking about.”
Another slap and this time, a tear rolled down her face.
“How can you lie so much? Does everyone thinks I am stupid? I wonder if you think that by saying that you don't know what I am talking about and lying so poorly I won't be able to see the obvious.
I am asking you one last time and I want you to tell me the truth because I want to hear it from you: Did you do this to Moon Bin?”
“Yes.” He said and she could not help it but laughing in frustration.
“Am I that pathetic, huh? I am such a frail girl that I need you to solve everything for me. I told you that I didn't want you to get involved in this. I told you it was my problem and that I was going to deal with it alone so why did you do it?”
“He needed a lesson.”
She laughed again “What are you? Who are you to do such a thing and claim that he needed a lesson? Is this how you grew up? Didn't your mother ever tell you that beating up someone who pissed you off does not solve everything? Didn't you ever learned that there are consequences for everyone’s actions? Oh wait... I forgot that you are the son of one of the most powerful men in the country so of course that those 'consequences' don't apply to you.” She sarcastically pointed out.
“My father has nothing to do with this”
“Oh really? So do you think that if I went to the police and told them what you did you were going to respond for your actions? You can honestly say that the your father's name would not have any influence in the process?”
He lowered his head, knowingly “I was worried about you. I did it for you.”
“Don't use me as an excuse. I have never asked you to do it, much on the contrary. I trusted you, I told you what happened and you let me down.”
“I don't regret it.” He said matter of factly “Even if you want me to say that I would never do it again I can't. I would do it again and I don't regret what I did because I really was worried about you. I am not just using you as an excuse, I did it because I care about you and because even though you get on my nerves, there's something about you that I can't ignore.” He stated.
“I'm sorry but I really don't want to talk to you right now. I think that if I keep looking at your face I will end up saying something I will regret later. Right now I don't want to have anything to do with you, Junsu. I'll be moving out of your house tomorrow morning.”
Sung Ri finished talking and turning her back on Junsu, she walked down the street, leaving the boy under the pouring rain, watching her go.
Having spent her money on the taxi, she knew she would not be able to get the bus so she decided to walk home while Junsu ended up going around town in his bike trying to clear his head.
When he returned home, Sung Ri was already there as he could see that the light in her studio was on.
Junsu walked entered the main house and headed to his bedroom where he took off his wet clothes and took a hot bath. Freshly out of the bath and now wearing some comfortable and warm clothes, he went down the stairs and entered the kitchen already empty since the maids were already asleep.
Picking up two mugs, he decided to warm up some milk and get the cookie box. After putting everything on a tray, he left the house, walked through the wooden bridge and got to Sung Ri's studio. He knocked but she did not reply. He knocked again, this time announcing his presence.
“Sung Ri, it's Junsu. Can I come in?”
“No.” She replied
“ Are you hungry? I brought you som - ”
“No, thanks” She interrupted and he sighed
Junsu put the tray on the floor just near the door and sat on the ground, his back leaning on the studio's door while picking up his mug and drinking the milk.
“Are you that mad at me?” He started “What did I do that was so bad?” Junsu kept going even if he had no answer “Maybe to other people what happened really was bad but I can't see it like that. Whoever cares about you will have the same opinion as me and tell you that he deserved it.
I am sorry if I acted in a bad way and I am sorry that I didn't kept my promise of not telling him what happened to you but I cannot apologize for what I did to him because I don't regret it even if you think I am cruel saying this and even if you don't want to look at my face right now.
However,” He continued “today you impressed me, you know? I had no idea you still liked him so much but the way you ran to the hospital and the way you yelled and looked at me...it made me realise that you still care. That guy really is lucky. His parents worry about him and you care about him... I'm honestly envying him right now.” He said with a bitter laugh.
“You know? I don't think I mentioned this to you before but Enoki is not my real father. He just adopted me after my parents abandoned me so if we look at things that way, I am not a “real” heir; he just pitied an abandoned child and raised it as his own. He was the only one who cared back then; When you asked me if I had never been told by my mother about acts and consequences...I actually did not have an answer for that; I did not have a mother to tell me what was right and what was wrong.
Maybe you think I just don't care about what surrounds me, maybe you think I do these things because I have my father's name to protect me but it's not true. I am sorry if I let you down Sung Ri; That was not my intention.
I promise I won't talk to you again if you don't want it but I promised your mother that I would help you get better so can't you stay here until you are better? Please?”
Throughout Junsu's monologue, Sung Ri had been attentively listening to him and as he continued, she thought about opening the door many times, but she let him continue but after that last question and the plead, Sung Ri decided to face the boy however he talked again before she was able to do it.
“Think about it and decide, okay? I'll let you rest now. I'm leaving the food here if you are hungry later. See you in the morning.”
Junsu got up then and left to the main house. Sung Ri went to the window and saw him do so and lit the main bedroom's lights a few minutes later. She went to the studio's door then and looked at the mug and the cookies on the tray, placed on the floor and a little post it with the words “I'm sorry” and a sad face on it which actually made Sung Ri smile.
“Idiot...”
~*~
Yunho, Hee Soo and Yoochun were inside Dae Ro's office for ten minutes already, wondering what kind of business would be so important that he had to call them all.
The man entered the room at last, greeting Yunho and smiling at his daughter and Yoochun before sitting down on his chair in front of the three youngsters.
Hee Soo spoke first “Is there any problem, father? Why did you called us here?”
“No, sweetheart, there is no problem or at least I hope it won't become a problem. What I have to tell you concerns your future, Hee Soo.”
“My future? I'm not sure I understand.”
“I am sorry,” Yunho interrupted “but are you sure you don't want me to leave? This seems like a family matter.”
“No, no, you must stay. This also concerns you,” Dae Ro said “As both you, Hee Soo, and Yoochun know, I intend to handle the company to someone who can succeed as president. I had Yoochun in mind for that role but the truth is that he has already told me he has no intention to administrate the company and I decided to accept his wish. That being said, in the future, the destiny of the Han Company will be in Hee Soo's hands.
I have been noticing how close you two are” He said, looking at Yunho and Hee Soo “I have been in contact with your father, Yunho.”
“I'm sorry?” Yunho expressed, being caught off guard.
“Although he is not in Korea at the moment, I have been in touch with him and we both believe that an agreement would benefit both of us as well as you two. Yunho's father has also expressed his delight in knowing of his relationship with Hee Soo”
“Relashionship?” Hee Soo blurted
“Well, we have agreed that it would be beneficial for both families that a future relashionship were to happen.”
“WHAT?” Yoochun said in a higher than desired tone
Hee Soo's father proceeded “It would benefit not only both of the families but it would also be very convenient for you two. There are conversations about a possible merge that would benefit the two companies making them stronger and competitive as one. I know that Hashi Enterprises is a multinational that also supports your family's company, Yunho, so I'm sure this merge would benefit everyone. I'd like however to listen to what you have to say.”
“I actually don't know what to say. The truth is, this is the first time I hear about all of this” Yunho said.
“I'm at loss for words, actually” Hee Soo finished
“Well I am not!” Yoochun interrupted “How can you suddenly bring up a matter like this? You talk about merges and companies and miss the key point: You're making them a proposition for an arranged marriage and they know each other for about two weeks. It's madness!”
“I am not forcing anything on Hee Soo, Yoochun.I am just asking them to think about it.”
“I believe we must think very seriously about all this matter” Yunho stated
“How about you, Hee Soo?” Her father asked
“I am... still chocked. I am not really sure about what to think right now but I will assess the situation later I guess.”
“I understand. I hope none of you two feels the pressure to answer and take your time thinking about this matter.”
Yoochun scoffed “It's kind of hard when you talk about 'the destiny of Company' ”
The tree of them left the room soon after. Yoochun maintained his expressionless face, not even looking at Hee Soo and none of them uttered a word until they got to the front door of the house.
“I'll drive Yunho” Yoochun announced
“It's not necessary. I have my car parked in front of the college so can get a taxi from here.”
“I insist. If my mother asks for me, tell her I will not be late.”
Yoochun left first, followed by Yunho.
The car trip was quiet as both of them remained silent until they reached their destination however as soon as Yoochun stopped the car, the boy talked for the first time.
“Did you really have no idea about what Hee Soo's father talked earlier” He asked, suddenly
“You mean the atempt of “arranged marriage” like you called it? No, it was the first time I heard about it.”
“What d you think about it?” Yoochun continued
“I don't know. It's still early to evaluate the situation and Hee Soo did not even have the time to think about it.”
“I know how Hee Soo thinks,” He interrupted “however you are a mystery for me. I don't have the slightest idea about how you might think about all this.”
“I agree that it would be a great investment for Han Company if both companies were to merge. It would make things easier specially for your family. Regarding Hee Soo, I am not sure if she is ready to accept anyone right now. Besides you, I mean” Yunho said, finishing the sentence in a very sarcastic tone and leaving Yoochun flabbergasted. “What? You think I am an idiot? You thought I didn't know about you two? I knew about it even before she told me.”
“Hee Soo told you?”
“She was too drunk and probably does not even remember.”
“Did something else happened that night?” Yoochun asked, almost fearing the answer
“Yes. Your girlfriend kissed me. Like I said, she was too drunk however I got a feeling she was not completely happy about your relationship but that is just my opinion. Anyway, although your father's proposition left me surprised, it's not something I'd like to refuse but I am not going to force it on Hee Soo either. She will choose me because she will fall for me and because your relationship has no future, no matter how you look at it and I think you know it too.”
“Are you telling me to quit?” Yoochun inquired
“I'm thinking you “should” give up but I am not saying you “have” to. That is your choice. We are both men and we like the same woman but one of us has the advantage and you know who that person is. I am not asking you to quit because I never liked to win things easily so try if you want or quit. The final result is already decided anyway.” Yunho finished, with a smile and soon after left the car.
Yoochun drove off quickly and as he drove, Yunho's words echoed in his head. It was true that he was the one with the disadvantage but it was also true that Hee Soo was still with him, or at least that was what he hoped.
