Chapter 5 Junsu came out of the bathroom talking by himself, mostly cursing Jaejoong which made Yoochun (that was waiting outside with his bags) keep looking at him and maybe think that his 'friend' might be slightly crazy.
“Did something happen, Junsu?”
The boy nodded negatively.
“YOOCHUN! What a surprise!” shouted Jaejoong who came out of the bathroom at that precise moment when Junsu and Yoochun were about to leave. Despite the smile that Yoochun gave him, his exaggerated tone of happiness earned him a very menacing look from Junsu. Who would have thought that friends could be that scary?
“I can see that you have been shopping. Isn't it nice of Junsu to come here with you and buy you some new clothes? Seems like he does like to see you dressed... up.” He said, purposely emphasizing on the 'dressed' part.
“Well, we have to leave now.” Junsu announced, pulling Yoochun along
“Do you want to come with us, Jaejoong?” Yoochun asked
“No, thanks you two have fun. Oh, by the way, Junsu can you lend me Yoochun for a bit? I need to tell him something.”
Against his will, Yoochun was pulled away by the blonde and taken into the bathroom despite the 'I'm-going-to-kill-you' look that Junsu sent him. A couple of minutes later, a blushing Yoochun came out from the bathroom and positioned himself right next to Junsu indicating that they could leave.
Junsu looked at him, curious but didn't dare to ask him what made him blush so hard and both of them decided to leave, biding goodbye to a very hyper Jaejoong that kept waving at them.
“I'll see you tomorrow at 7. Don't be late” Jaejoong shouted
For a moment, Junsu had forgotten about Hyo Yeon's party the next day. He told them that he would bring Yoochun and now he was wondering if that would actually be a good idea since he didn't know what to do if someone were to find out what he really was.
Those thoughts rambled through Junsu's mind throughout the whole time that he and Yoochun walked out from the shopping mall until they reached the bus stop. It was only then that the boy finally realized that he had lost 'something' when he looked behind and didn't see Yoochun.
Snapping out of it, he looked around and scanned the street thoroughly, spotting Yoochun at last, in front of what seemed like a flower shop.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, approaching Yoochun.
“What is that?” Yoochun inquired, pointing at the flowers in front of him “What is it called?”
Junsu directed his look to what Yoochun was pointing “Those are flowers. They are called sunflowers.”
The android looked at him, curious “Is it because they look like little suns?”
Junsu smiled “Partially yes. They're also called sunflowers because they follow the sun.”
“THEY WALK?”
Junsu jumped a bit at the sound of Yoochun's sudden high-pitch but couldn't help but to smile also. His innocence was beyond belief and the fact that he couldn't distinguish slight metaphors from real facts added to his cuteness so he just laughed out loud and patted his head.
“No, Yoochun. The upper part of the flower turns towards the sun, so where the sun might be, they turn towards it.”
“Woah... they are smart” And then Junsu died from the cuteness. “Can we buy one?”
“Sure, we can buy a few.”
Yoochun left the shop, holding two flower arrangements; one made out of sunflowers and the other made out of a mix of flowers that he just thought were pretty.
Mostly like a kid who just got what he wanted, it was impossible for him to keep his smile which was actually contagious - at least for Junsu - so both of them went home basically smiling like idiots.
When they got home, the first thing Yoochun did was take care of his precious flowers, bouncing from room to room, looking for a pretty vase to put them in. Junsu ended up discovering him inside his studio at last, putting the vase with both flower arrangements in it on top of one of the tables, near the window.
“What are you doing?”
“Oh, I thought I should put them here since this place is where you do what you love the most, so maybe it'll help to have something that could relax you and maybe inspire you. I read somewhere that looking at pretty and relaxing things can inspire humans.” Yoochun said, still smiling.
“I bought them for you, Yoochun.”
“And I wanted you to buy them for yourself” He said, sheepishly “I know, I'll take one of the smart suns. Can I put it in the living room?” Yoochun asked, taking one of the sunflowers from the vase. “Do you think it will follow the sun even in here?”
“I'm sure it will if you open the curtains and let the sun inside.”
Yoochun ran to the living room with his sunflower in hand and when Junsu got there, he was already propped on the couch, looking at the flower already in a glass vase, near the window.
“I've already opened the window. How long do you think it'll take before it looks at the sun? I think it's not working...”
Junsu smiled “It might take a bit, Yoochun.”
“You think? What if mine isn't smart enough? Do you think it'll know where the sun is?”
The young brunette was definitely melting in a pile of goo with all the cute remarks that Yoochun was making about the flowers and so he decided that he needed a smart reason to leave the room as soon as possible.
“I'll go put these clothes in my room, since we don't have any space in the living room for them okay?”
Yoochun nodded and Junsu disappeared quickly, opening his room's door and closing it as soon as he got in. He panted.
[Damn...]
“What is happening to me?”
~*~
The next day, Yoochun woke him up as always and now with a slight peck on the lips. Since he WAS allowed to do it in the morning as somehow part of their agreement, the boy was getting used to it by the day. It was kind of common now and it was basically like being kissed by an affectionate dongsaeng or by a child. Yes, it was most likely the second option...
[A very handsome, cute and devious child] Junsu thought, at the sight o Yoochun's eyes on his and his body, partially leaning on him.
“Let's do it, Junsu.”
A gasp “WHAT? Do what?”
“You'll have to do it or else you're going to be in trouble. I'll cheer on you though”
“Yoochun... my brain cannot process anything coherent in the first hour of the morning, so you'll have to tell me what you are talking about.”
“It’s about your project for the college's contest. You'll have to start on it or you'll be in trouble, right?”
“Right... Well, I don't feel like painting now. Not inspired.”
“That's why we brought the flowers” he said, while pushing Junsu towards the studio “Think pretty things, think about someone you like. They say those things bring inspiration to people. Can I keep you company?”
Junsu resigned and let himself being almost dragged into the paint scented room where he sat on a chair in front of one of the canvas and reluctantly picked up his painting materials. A couple of minutes went by before the boy could actually draw enough will to think of even apply the first strokes but when he did, he kept going without much effort while Yoochun watched him intently.
A couple of hours later, Yoochun switched his position on the chair where he was sitting and his attention diverted from Junsu to the sheet of paper where he was scribbling with a few colored pens that he found lying around.
After a few hours that curiously looked like minutes to Junsu, he stopped painting, putting the brush and the rest of the materials aside realizing they didn't have much time to prepare until Jaejoong would come to pick them up to go to Hyo Hyeon's party. He noticed that Yoochun was awfully quiet for the last few hours so he decided to go to him and see what was taking all of his concentration away. He didn't even notice that the boy was behind him, peeking at his 'work of art'.
“What are you doing?”
“Oh. Have you finished your painting?”
Junsu pulled a chair and sat right beside him “No. It will take quite some time to finish, but I started it so it's not that bad. How about you? Are you drawing?”
Yoochun nodded “I drew a picture of you and your friends. This is you and these are Jaejoong, Yunho and Changmin.” He said, pointing at each character in his drawing.
“What is that pink thing hanging on the tree?”
“Heechul.”
“It's very good” He said, trying not to laugh at the childish look-like drawing
“Don't mock me. I know this is not -”
“No, it's good” Junsu said, interrupting Yoochun “Can you give it to me?” A questioning look came from Yoochun “I'm going to put it there on the wall. Maybe it'll inspire me in the future.”
Having his drawing to be put on the wall for Junsu to look at made him beyond happy and out of instinct, he just jumped from his chair and threw himself at Junsu, getting a bit too near to his lips. He stopped midway though.
“Sorry... it's a habit. Don't we have to hurry? Jaejoong will be coming to get us, right?”
Junsu nodded and Yoochun quickly disappeared from the studio, much to Junsu's frustration.
Junsu's room was transformed into a mini storeroom with the amount of clothes that were on top of his bed and on the floor while Junsu tried to figure out what o wear.
“Black pants or white pants?”
“Black” Yoochun said “No, not that shirt! Wear that tank-top and the beige jacket”
Junsu followed Yoochun's advices and finished getting dressed while his android waited, sitting on a chair, after being the first to get ready. A few minutes later, Jaejoong sent him a text. “Yoochun, they are here. Now, let me just tell you something before we go: we are going to a birthday party so there will be a lot of people and I really mean a lot. Most of them are from my college and they don't know that you live with me, nor they know what you are, so you'll have to keep a low profile and if anyone asks, you tell them that you are my friend and that you are just my roommate for the moment, alright?
“Why must we lie?”
“It's very complicated to explain the details so let's do it like that for now, okay? Let's just say that it's hard for people to understand at the moment. Oh, and for as long as we are there, no cute nicknames. You will be Yoochun and I will be Junsu. Do you understand?”
“Alright.”
Junsu signaled Yoochun for them to get out of the room and as both of them got out of the house and saw Jaejoong's car, Yoochun's mood went up. It didn't take them too long to get to the girl's party and as the car stopped, Yunho was the only one who was actually happy.
Jaejoong sighed “We are here”
“Are you alright?” Yoochun asked
“Can I stay in the car?”
“Good idea, Min. I'll stay with you.” The blonde blurted
“WAI?” Yunho yelled “We are here and we have to go in. I have to give her my present.”
“You go then” Jaejoong urged
“Do you really think they'll let him in if he gets there all alone? He would need your face to get in, hyung.” Changmin said, pointing at Yunho who scrunched his face.
Jaejoong decided to comply to Yunho's (stupid) desire to be humiliated and the quintet left the car. Jaejoong led the way, while Yunho was next to Junsu and Chanmin kept ogling over Yoochun.
“Yoochun-ah, tonight you must not leave Junsu's side, alright?” Yoochun tilted his head and Changmin proceeded into telling him why “You like him, don't you?”
“Of course. He's my master and a very good person so I must do everything in order to make him happy.”
Changmin quirked a brow “Not like that. I am not talking about you being programmed into doing everything for him, I am talking about you having a personality and the feelings that having one brings. The other kind of “liking”.
Yoochun blushed “I think I understand.”
“Well yeah, I knew you liked him so I'm telling you not to leave his side at any time. Knowing Junsu, his head must be very confused lately and it will be easier for him to avoid what he might feel for you than admitting it.”
“What does he feel?”
“Trust me, I'm good with these things so today, stay by him and don't talk neither with Hyo Hyeon or Taeyeon. They are not good people.”
Yoochun nodded in agreement and their conversation was only interrupted as the door to the house was opened and a very cheerful Hyo Hyeon greeted (Jaejoong) them.
“Jaejoong! You came!”
He scoffed “It looks like it. Happy birthday.”
“Thank you.” She said, while trying to embrace him but failing as the boy dodged her immediately getting inside and she suddenly faced... Changmin “Oh... hi Changmin how are -”
“You don't have to greet me. It's not like I want to be here.”
It was then that the girl reminded herself why she hated Changmin. Yunho came next, handing her the gift that he had gotten her which made her give him a crooked smile.
They got inside the house, that was already filled with her friends and colleagues from college and it didn't take long before she decided that she'd have to stick to Jaejoong like glue for the whole night.
Changmin decided that at a big party there should have a big table with food and amongst that food, there should be something made out of chocolate...
“Found it!”
Changmin was far from being anti-social despite what others might think but he just didn't like those people. More than half the people that were in there were rich, spoiled brats who had nothing inside their heads and who would worry only about futile things and convenient friendships and that was something he despised, so he decided that it was better to have only his brothers to talk to in college and Junsu as a friend than keeping a fake smile to those people who did not even know who he was.
In a way, he had added a new friend to his short list, namely Yoochun, and even if he knew that he was not exactly 'normal', to him he was so much more like a human being than half the people in that room.
~*~
“Are you having fun, Yoochun?” Junsu asked, sitting right beside him
“I think so. I didn't know that a birthday party was like this. It seems a bit complicated.”
“Why complicated?”
“Too many people who don't even talk to each other, the music is too loud so we can barely listen to each other nor keep a conversation for long and most of them drink too much. I don't get why. Are they that thirsty?”
“Well, they don't have to be thirsty to drink alcohol. They mostly drink it to get loosened up.”
“'Loosened up'? Why? Is someone going to lock them somewhere?”
Junsu laughed at his naivety “It's just an expression. Most people drink to be more social and extroverted.”
“Do you need to be extroverted too, Junsu?” He asked, looking at the glass that the boy was holding in his hand “That's your third.”
He widened his eyes, as he looked at the glass. “It is? Well, it's just this once and besides I'm not drunk and if I happen to get drunk, I'll always have you to take me home and take care of me, right?”
Yoochun didn't really think that Junsu needed to drink to be social and he honestly didn't like it but he was kind of afraid to tell him that and make him angry so he kept those thoughts to himself and watched as a bubbly girl approached them, smiling, greeting Junsu and pointing at him.
“Oppa, who is he?”
“Hi Taeyeon. This is Yoochun. He is my friend who is sharing the apartment with me for the moment.”
She nodded while hinting him that she wanted to talk to him in private. Junsu looked at Yoochun though. “He will be okay right here, right? Let's go, oppa.” She said, dragging him along with her while Yoochun was still trying to see where the girl was taking his friend.
“Yoochun, what are you doing here?” Changmin asked “Where is Junsu?”
“We went somewhere with a girl.”
“Don't tell me it was Taeyeon!” Yoochun nodded positively “You should have kept him with you, Yoochun. C'mon, we have to find them. That girl is just bad news.”
Changmin grabbed Yoochun's hand, pulling him along but stopping at once as soon as a yell came from him while he grabbed his head, scaring Changmin who stopped at once.
“What is wrong?”
“I don't know. Something strong inside.”
“Pain?”
Yoochun tried to rub it for a bit “I don't know what pain feels like, so I can't tell what it is for sure but it's something strong that I can't describe.”
“Is it supposed for you to have any kind of pain? I thought you didn't have a neurological system. Give me your hand; can you feel me touching it?”
“No” he said. As the weird feeling was gone, he followed Changmin again, only to be almost knocked into the floor by a guy that didn't see him. He yelped again after the male hit his arm which made Changmin really worried.
“Did you feel that?” Yoochun gave him a nod and so Changmin decided to hit him hard, on the same spot. This time, the android reacted “What is wrong with you, Yoochun?”
“I don't know. Do you think I am broken?”
Changmin patted him on his head “Come on, let's find Junsu and make him get you out of here.”
~*~
“Did you see Hyeo Yeon?”
“I saw her going up to the rooms.”
Yunho smiled, thanking the girl for the precious information. Ever since he got to he party he was unable to find Hyo Yeon. He went upstairs heading to where the girl might be and it didn't take long until he stopped in front of one of the doors when he thought he'd heard her voice but as his hand reached for the knob another familiar voice was heard: Jaejoong's.
He found it weird for him to be hearing his brother's voice coming from Hyo Yeon's room when he barely talked to the girl, so he decided to let his curiosity take the best of him and planted his ear on the door, trying to listen to what the two of them were saying.
“What do you want?”
“You know what I want, Jaejoong.”
“And what makes you think I'm even interested?” He asked.
“Aren't you? Then why did you come to my party? Why are you inside my room?”
He scoffed “Don't get the wrong idea. I came because of Yunho.”
“Can we please not talk about him? It ruins the mood.” Outside, Yunho swallowed hard. It was easier to hear what they were saying than he thought initially. “Why would I even think about that guy when you are here with me?”
“'That guy' has a name. If you have nothing else to say, I'll be leaving.”
Jaejoong got up and headed towards the room's door but the girl halted him, grabbing his wrist. “C'mon Jae, can't you reconsider? Wouldn't it be good to go back to the good old times? Me and you, you and me... Don't you miss me and this room...?” She asked, showing him a devious smile.
“Not really.”
He tried again to get away from her grip but the girl just held on tighter and suddenly enveloped her arms around his body, forcing herself on him. Silence took over the room and suddenly the door opened wide, revealing a very unfriendly-looking Yunho that kept sending death glares to his brother who was in a very compromising position with his dream woman.
“Was this the reason why you didn't want me to be interested in her?” Jaejoong looked at his brother, feeling kind of guilty and at the same time, sorrowful that he had to witness the scene although he was doing nothing with Hyo Yeon. “WAS THIS THE REASON?” This time he yelled, surprising Jaejoong.
“Are you insane? Why are you yelling?”
“I see... Such a good brother you are, Jaejoong.” The boy turned his back on both Hyo Yeon and Jaejoong, leaving his brother dumbfounded at his reaction. He sure felt a bit guilty, even though he was not doing anything wrong but now he was just angry at Yunho for yelling at him for no reason.
He aimed for the door's knob.
“Let him go. Why do you even bother with that idiot? He's such a looser... who would even put up a scene like this?”
Jaejoong pushed the girl aside, glaring at her “He is my brother and you won't be talking about him like that ever again. You can be sure that if you were a guy, I'd be punching your lights out right now.”
“We have something between us, Jae... we-”
“We have nothing,” he started “and you don't even know how much I regret the fact that I once shared something with you. Just go and get some retarded guy who is willing to take you and leave me alone. I'm sure you won't be having troubles in getting another guy.
~*~
Changmin and Yoochun found Junsu in the house's balcony with Taeyeon and even though Yoochun didn't understand why, the younger Kim pulled him to the side and both of them hid behind the curtains where they could hear everything they were saying.
“Waa... the sight from here is so wonderful” The boy said
“You are right”
“There is a nice breeze tonight, isn't it?”
She hummed and Changmin rolled his eyes at the pointless conversation. Wait... that could not be called a conversation. Ever.
“Oppa... I have something to tell you. Something that I've been wanting to tell you for a long time but didn't have the courage to do so.”
“[Shit!] Yoochun, cover your ears.” Changmin commanded him, while putting Yochun's hands on his ears
In the balcony, Taeyeon continued with her sudden confession “I like you, oppa. I have liked you ever since the first time you talked to me so I was wondering how you felt about me.”
Junsu was stunned. He actually felt like a huge weight landed on top of his head without warning and that sudden confession was not what he was expecting to hear. At all.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” She asked
There was silence and for a brief moment, he thanked the fact that was not humanly possible to read a person's thoughts because his were shouting inside his head.
[Let's date!] Yoochun's voice screamed inside his head “No” he said
“Do you have someone you like right now?”
[I like you and I want to get to know you better] “No”
“So do you think you can give me a chance?”
[I like you]
“Junsu? Are you listening to me?”
The boy snapped out of his thoughts “Yes. I am.”
“So, do you think that-”
“Let's date!” He said, decisively “Let's do it.”
Taeyeon smiled widely at him and quickly pulled him into an embrace that soon enough escalated into something more when the girl enveloped the boy's neck with her arms and got dangerously close to him.
He knew what was going to happen next and although his mind was screaming for him to stop her, his body was frozen. She closed his eyes and let her lips touch his.
[Kissing you makes me happy, Su. Not you?] It felt so wrong...
Changmin did not favor any kind of violence and considered himself to be quite a peaceful soul but he was getting murderous thoughts by the second; his mind telling him to jump on Junsu's neck for his stupid actions. Seeing that should be hard on Yoochun, so the boy looked behind, thinking about what he'd tell the android about that situation but suddenly realized that he was nowhere to be seen.
He got out o the room and looked for a bit, finding him walking down the hall with his head low.
“You are sad because of Junsu, right? Don't worry, I am sure he wasn't thinking straight when he accepted Taeyeon's proposition.”
Yoochun kept going “No, he did what was best for him. He told me that we could not be together.”
Changmin was feeling sorry for Yoochun. It would be easier if he didn't act so much like a human being “You know Yoochun, sometimes people say things that they really don't mean. Junsu doesn't like Taeyeon.”
“No, it's better like this.” He said and he kept repeating it until Changmin stopped him by putting himself in front of Yoochun.
He was in for another shock.
“Omona! Yoochun, are... are you c-crying?”
Yoochun took a hand to his face, realizing that he had something wet coming from his eyes “How are you crying?”
He didn't know. He had never cried. He was never able to.
Changmin rose his hand, touching his face “Yoochun-ah... can you feel me?” A nod came from him and a rush of worries came along “What is wrong with you, Yoochun?”
“Why is it, Changmin? Why is it like this? Why does it hurt so much in here?” He clasped the area where his heart was located and Changmin pulled him into a tight embrace and shushed the 'boy'.
It was breaking his heart to see him like that.
“It's alright Yoochun. Everything will be alright.”
