First Day in Taiwan 台灣第一天

Feb 10, 2009 19:00

After 15 hours of airplane ride, it was really uncomfy, especially the special thingie my mom made me wear to hide my money. ~_~;;; Anyways, I usually don't use the bathroom much, but in this period of time, I needed to use the bathroom twice, which is inconvenient since I sat in the window seat. ^o^;; haha, but the cool thing was I can see outside the window. I saw the lights of San Francisco, the snow glaciers over Alaska, the lights in Tokyo and the night lights in Taiwan as well.

And omigawd, this one is neat. I saw the moon BELOW me! O.O It was the 1th on lunar calendar, so the moon was full too. But as we land, we went under the clouds and can't see it anymore but wowzers.... the full moon was BELOW me.... O.O

When I landed in the Taoyuan airport, I saw a Fahrenheit's "Welcome to Taiwan" cardboard stands! Wowzers! ^.^

In the end, Tamkang really did remember to send a Mr. Lin to pick me up, and after another 50 minute drive in the van, I arrived at my dorm. The weather is warm actually, and sunny with no rain. ^_^ I met our Dorm leader (hehe) Xiao Ting, a guy that's pretty nice and is really helpful. A dorm girl named Rike, pronounced Ree-ka, is a big German girl who's also really friendly, and her Mandarin is good too, even tho a lot of her pronunciation is off. ^o^ lol I was sent off to live in dorm room 406, in the 4th floor.

My roommates were a Taiwanese girl named Fish, and a Slovakvitch girl from Germany named Katarina. Fish looks cute..... although that comment sounded unstraight, but that's okie, cuz it's true. lol

Interesting findings in Taiwan so far=
1. They have something called the “Wax Apple,” in mando it’s called Lian wu. It’s native to Taiwan, and also only found in Taiwan. I ate one, and it was yummie. ^o^ Very juicy. It’s like eating a pear, except no stone cells. ^o^;; See Jennifer? Aren’t you PROUD that I ate Asian fruits? ^o^
2. If it’s edible, drinkable, it’s cheap. A large boba drink costs around $1. Mmmm!
3. Shampoo is not cheap. I needed to buy shampoo, and it was $8 per bottle (well, it may depend on the shampoo I bought - Tsubaki shampoo and Ascience conditioner)!!! Mwhhahaa… a-science…. But anyways, I glanced at some other things at the stores, it item-items isn’t amazingly cheap, it’s actually about the same when u convert it… Like an hairclip would be $3….
4. Taiwanese people are tall!!! More than half of my dormies feel like they’re all taller than me, or at least my height. Am I short? O.o;
5. Taiwan really do like stars endorsement. I saw Jolin Tsai, Shu Qi, Leehom Wang, SHE and of course Fahrenheit on bottles, and various brands.
6. Lots of motorcycles. And people really do put those masks on their faces.
7. Taiwan is currently around 63 degrees Fahrenehit (17C), but Sacramento is 31 degrees F (0C!!!). So it’s not cold here, and maybe a little hot even cuz of humidity. Thus far, I’m not sure what humidity is yet tho.
8. You need to have your own toilet paper in the dorm.
9. There really are 7-11’s everywhere and are opened 24/7.
10. My dormies find my mandarin good. Nonsense! They’re too kind…! *sniff*
11. The shower’s hot water is not hot enough for Annie!!! NOoOOoOOooOO! ~_~
12. I already got bit by one misquito. These misquitoes are definitely larger than the ones at home.
