Character History and Background: Years before the Stargate program went public, the SGC discovered one of many accessible stargates via the random dialing program. The MALP determined the the stargate there was situated in a heavily secured facility not unlike the SGC. SG-1 traveled to the planet, known to its residents as Zhumitao to make first contact. It went peacefully enough. The planetary culture was ethnically chinese and highly advanced technically. The locals agreed to diplomatic relations and SG-1 returned home; SG-9, the primary diplomatic team, would take over from there. Two years of endless negotiations followed before the SGC concluded that the negotiations would never lead anywhere.

The SGC was correct. The Zhumitao had no intention of making a deal-the negotiations were a ruse. The people of that world had been left to their own devices for nearly two millennia after the Goa'uld System Lord who'd taken their ancestors from earth vanished (presumably defeated and killed by a rival who never discovered this world). The Zhumitao were quite advanced technically, but after several bad experiences with aliens arriving via the stargate, they were also now extremely cautious about dealing with any newcomers (though the stargate was too useful to them to bury entirely).

Allowing the aliens to visit gave them the opportunity to determine the address--and hence the location--of their homeworld. Within months of SG-1’s initial visit, surveillance vessels took up listening posts in the solar system, collecting and analyzing the immense amount of radio and television broadcasts beamed into space from earth. They learned many of earth’s languages, as well as a great deal about the popular culture, politics and history of earth.

Two years later twelve agents were delivered to earth via orbital drops from cloaked ships, dispersed to all the member nations of the UN Security Council, to continue gathering information and determine whether it was safe to make contact with the earthlings. Ling “Vivian” Wu and Wei “James” Wu were assigned to China. They traveled widely, studying the culture and population. By the time they returned to Zhumitao, they--all of the agents--would have vast amounts of intelligence to provide to their superiors.

The scheduled time for pick-up came-and then went. When the second pick-up date passed without any communication from home, they contacted the other agents around the world. All were present; none had been contacted. Shortly afterward the revelation of earth's looming destruction was made to the Chinese government. Ling and Wei Wu immediately feared the worst, but could do nothing.

They kept tabs on the Chinese government's communications with the IOA and Stargate Command and learned of the off-world colonies being established, as well as the lottery system being implemented. It didn't take long to discover that the Chinese lottery was being rigged to assure that most slots went to powerful government officials and military leaders. Ling Wu hacked the Chinese government's communications network and altered the results so that two Chinese military officers (Ling and Wei Wu, complete with newly minted but utterly convincing supporting documents and computer histories) were included on the roster of evacuees.

In addition to their military and combat skills, Ling and Wei Wu also possess two pieces of advanced technology. First, the BrainPal, a nanotech computer implant. With it they can communicate with one another by radio, in a form of technological telepathy. It also contains a vast amount of data storage. Second, they each have a SmartSuit, a nanotech bodysuit that resemblances a wetsuit. They can control the SmartSuit with the BrainPal, altering the texture and color of its surface to resemble many other kinds of clothing, or to blend into their environment with a chameleon-like pattern. When they aren't wearing the smartsuit, it can change it's shape into a number of innocuous forms, most often resembling an unusually thick yoga mat.

Ling Wu and Wei Wu, like all the spies dropped on Earth, are career soldiers. All of them were members of elite units--special forces of one sort or another. All are accomplished martial artists. They are dedicated soldiers, loyal to their world. Wei Wu is the more pragmatic of the two; he has accepted that Zhumitao may in fact be no more, like so many other space-faring worlds. He still hopes to be proved wrong but is beginning to accept that Gamma World may be their home for the rest of their lives. Ling refuses to consider the possibility; as far as she is concerned they are still on active duty, and their first loyalties must remain with Zhumitao, and they must try to discover if their home world still exists and, if so, return there as soon as possible.

James and Vivian have integrated into the colony in the months since it opened up. They present themselves as married, but make no bones about the fact that it is a marriage of convenience. Vivian has been working as a doctor when needed; otherwise she pitches in wherever hands are needed. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty or throw herself into projects that require a strong back more than skill or training. She also teaches regular martial arts classes to interested students and plans to participate in gate exploration when the Gamma Teams begin operating.
