[Valerie Syence] Always with the good newssinanjuMarch 15 2008, 07:34:33 UTC
"What does it mean?" Val asked, repeating the first question. "It means that the gates on Earth, Alpha and Beta aren't accessible. They could be buried or destroyed. There's no way to know

Despite the close quarters the crowd maintained a small space around Darien and Bobby. As much as Bobby would like to think it was out of respect for his Hapkido prowess, both he and Darien knew the real reason: they were filthy. Darien did a convincing Pigpen impression after three hours of helping dig out the still-buried area around the stargate. Bobby had traded dirt for grease. He was one of the mechanics working on the vehicles that weren't flattened by the damned meteors.
Bobby took a swig from his water bottle, then handed it to Darien. The taller man eyed the black fingerprints on the plastic container, then shrugged and drank as well. "Thanks, man." The Brooklynite grunted. His attention was on the knot of people around Jackson and Séance. Séance, Science, Syence, Darien mused. Whatever."Cute for an egghead," Bobby stated

Jack O'Neill] Let's not get nuts, here!lost_mckayMarch 15 2008, 13:49:45 UTC
"Cute kid," opined the supposedly retired Major General Jack O'Neill as he headed up the side aisle. Avoid the traffic, he figured. He nodded his greeting to the archaeologist with a brief, "Daniel," before returning his attention to the conversation that threatened histrionics.
He was dressed in Air Force navy blue BDUs, comfortable, sturdy work clothes; dark t-shirt sitting beneath a buttoned, long sleeved blue shirt and multi-pocketed cargo pants, finished off with a pair of serviceable boots. They had their insignias placed, as the man was in uniform, patches and rank embroidered upon the epaulets. His boots still had their basic shine, so the chances were good they weren't quite as loved as they could have been. Years in Washington scuffed boots in different ways

She'd like to reserve an 'official' statement for a more concrete explanation of what's been going on-- Except for the fact that it only really takes a spark to light a fire, and the fire in this case involved rumours of being cut off. One would assume it's a perfectly acceptable explanation, and it would be if a few key facts weren't outright missing or disregarded. Problem was that Valerie was talking as if she knew all this in an official capacity, which could cause said explanation to spread among the refugees like a message in a game of telephone.
She let Jack handle it at first, since he's oh so good at getting the point across, whether he's being succinct or long-winded. A rare trait indeed, one that Sam herself didn't really have. Sure, she could explain things, but the meaning was often lost within hard scientific facts that occasionally caused people to tell her to shut up in so many words. She has got to back him up, though

Punctual to the point of bordering on obsessive-compulsive, Ami arrived at the "town hall," breathing heavy, but not out of breath. Her new side occupation of teaching Tai Chi and yoga to the colonists as a means of fitness, recreation and relaxation was all well and good, but she was no longer going to allow anyone other than herself, to plan and schedule the classes. Maggie was wonderful, in her new-agey, one-ness with the earth sort of way, but clearly her clouded view of the world prevented her from seeing the physical differences between teenagers and fifty-somethings, novices and the experienced
