On bad writers and such
Holy crap.
The writers in my Advanced Fiction Writing class SUCK. I haven't read a larger collection of tripe since...maybe since looking over my fanfics from high school. But would it be completely arrogant and dickish to say even those were better? I doubt it. They blew too.
point being, of the three sections I reviewed this week, only one was okay, and she wrote about boring things. Fucking high school dramas. TWO people wrote about them. WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT HUH? WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE WRITE ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL. IT'S NOT INTERESTING. HIGH SCHOOL SORT OF SUCKED. Sort of. It was fine, but damn I don't want to write about the real world and high school. I didn't like it that much at all at all at all.
One submission was the shittiest fantasy I've ever read. Imagine someone writing up their D and D campaign, only they can't write and like purple language, and the DM's an idiot and decides a good plot twist is YOU ALL FORGET ABOUT YOUR MISSION TO HELP THE GODS AND GO HOME. What bullshit. Reading that was painful, moreso because the MC was delusional and his friend might as well have been braindead.
But it was nothing compared to the submission about a high school teacher. Apparently, every student at said school was a slutty drug user and cutter. And everyone's a walking stereotype and wants to bone each other. Even if the person's their teacher, or has a husband abroad in Iraq. It was like she was trying to write a parody of high school dramas but didn't know how and played everything straight.
Okay, fine, maybe others will say they hate superhero stories or my stuff is crap. Whatever. I know The Metawars is better than its first inception. Most of what I read was past saving.
I weep.
And I still have to offer constructive advice tomorrow. Dammit.
back to work. Or Robot Unicorn Attack.
