Kenneth looked at Tom with a frown, the price of a room at the Leaky proving a little steeper than he’d anticipated. At this rate, he’d plow through his meager savings in a few weeks instead of months, he thought to himself. So much for settling in awhile before looking for work. Still, it was cheaper than a Muggle place, strangely enough, though his search had been limited so far. He’d take the room for now and see if he could rent a room for cheaper when he had time to do some real searching. In a beach community or a ski town, he’d know just where to go, but the city wasn’t his usual habitat, and he was going to have to learn what would’ve been second nature in other places. And it was the wizarding world he’d come back for, he told himself. He needed to spend some time in and reacquaint himself with it. Total immersion, he decided then and there. He’d live and work in the wizarding world for awhile. It would be a new adventure. He enjoyed a good adventure.
That decided, Kenneth pulled out the appropriate number of galleons from his pocket. He’d had a bit changed at the portkey office before he’d come over from Ireland, but the majority he intended to have changed at Gringott’s, hoping he’d get a better rate there. He nodded to Tom and hoisted his backpack, heading up the stairs two at a time and opening the door to his room just long enough to toss in his backpack.
Nodding to Tom again on his way out, Kenneth decided to head down Diagon Alley, intending to go to Gringott’s first before spending some time soaking up atmosphere. He’d check out the Quidditch shop, he thought, and pick up a paper. See if there were any places hiring. He could wait tables or bartend if he had to, though ultimately he wanted to find something outdoors to do.
