If you get a chance, for goodness get out there. The leaves are fantastic right now, the hiking paths are well maintained...just all sorts of goodness. Hurray nature!
However, if you DO go out, there or anywhere outside the city, PLEASE drive safely. I'm used to seeing deer, but they are just out in huge numbers right now. Saturday night we had a very uncomfortable encounter...a car ahead of us hit a doe, paralyzing her back half...as it wasn't dead, we pulled over with the intention of doing what I hope all of you are willing to do...end her suffering. Beaux jumped out with a dinky little pocket knife (work with what you have) and just as he was walking up to her, a man stopped who had just been on his hunting lease, so he was equipped and dressed for the part. His gun was surely more humane than what we were going to attempt...I've never been so happy to see a hunter in my life!
We all took it very badly (a deer being hit by a car is bad but a deer who's been hit and keeps getting hit because people are idiots and don't watch what they are doing is just freaking awful). Little g took it HORRIBLY, she hasn't stopped talking about it...she is very angry at the hunter. I tried to explain to her that had the hunter not shown up, b or I would have done the same thing...the right thing. Poor kid...I just hope she understands soon, because watching her little eyes water up ever couple of minutes is just breaking my heart.
