Today for lunch we finally went to
The Ritual Cafe, which I believe is the only restaurant in Des Moines with an all vegetarian menu. I had a hummus sandwich. It was yummy. It was also the first place I've been in Des Moines that made me feel like I was back in Natchitoches. I guess many small coffeehouse type places have a similar feel.
Here's what we have planned for today: clean up the pool, take the dogs for a walk, possibly mow the backyard. I think that's about it.
Sadly, my once beautiful summer pool, without the aid of chlorine and a serious filter, has devolved into an algae-filled cesspool. So we are draining it, cleaning it, and then either re-filling it, or packing it away. It does have a drain with a hose attachment, which is nice--our backyard will get a bit of watering, and it won't all dump in one place. We used an *amazingly* small 2,000 gallons of water in July (compared with last July, when we used 11,000), so I'm pretty pleased with our decision not to water the lawn this year.
We are trying the
Gentle Leader on both of our dogs for walking, in the hopes that they will become well-behaved enough to take them on daily walks and get some exercise ourselves. I may also break our the roller skates.
There you have it. Our Saturday in a nutshell.
