The pilot movie was really good, but I think what happened was, Gary Scott Thompson decided he had this specific story he wanted to tell before things went the old-school way. The story arc isn't bad, it's just... long and not paced super-well. Once you're through that (an additional twelve episodes of pilot, basically), the show takes a hard left turn and suddenly it's Knight Rider instead of Secret Government Agency That Hires A Lot Of Inexplicably Young And Improbably Hot Experts.
And the cast of thousands disappears. Try not to get attached to anybody but Ki3t, Mike, Sarah, Billy, and Zoe.
Anyway. If you want to deal with continuity, go on ahead and start from the beginning; continuity starts to matter less from Episode 13 onward (and all those episodes should be online still; NBC.com has full recent episodes on their site). I'll admit I like the show, but it started off with a few problems. The most recent episodes have either fixed them or are written around them.
