This morning was a red letter day for me. For the first time in me 22 year history I got to walk through a picket line. Now for me, coming from a pretty small town with no big business, prior to this week I’d never seen a picket line, live and in person. They were always on TV, being covered by the news. This morning also allowed me to finally get an answer to a question I’ve wondered about for a while.
“If you’re on a picket line, what do you talk about when you’re not yelling?”
So, I turned off my mp3 player as I walked through, and can tell you that the guys who were fighting the man this morning had some interesting conversations, including, but not limited to:
-The menu at Apples Bees
-His 14 year old daughter maybe being pregnant
-his dog
-arguments against pumpernickel bread
-needing a bathroom break.
I’d also like to take this moment to point out that exactly none of these people were discussing why they were protesting, and their signs were not a ton of help. So it took a while to piece together that they were protesting MSU using non-unionized labor.
I hope that was as informational for you, as it was for me.
