I own a Mac.
Yeah that's right, I own a Mac. What of it biotch?
So I just bought a new car, and I thought that instead of putting a new stereo MP3 player in it, I'd just use the good CD player I had in my last car, cause it's still fantastic, and just use the money I'd planned on a new stereo to finally buy an iPod and a radio transmitter for it.
But damn they're expensive. Starting at just $99.99, all the way up to $450.
512 MB iPod Shuffle (plays random songs and is meant for joggers) is $99.
1 Gig iPod Shuffle is $150.
4 gig iPod Mini (just like a normal iPod, only smaller, smaller and colorier) is $199.
6 gig iPod Mini is $250.
20 gig iPod is $299.
30 gig iPod Photo (normal iPod but can save and display pictures!) is $350.
60 gig iPod Photo is $450.
But lets look at this from a slightly different perspective. Dollars per gigs. The difference makes me want to cry.
512 for $99 = In the grand scheme, $198 a gig
1 gig for $150 = Duh, $150 a gig
4 gig for $199 = $49.75 a gig
6 gig for $250 = $41.70 a gig
20 gig for $299 = $14.95 a gig
30 gig for $350 = $11.70 a gig
60 gig for $450 = $7.50 a gig
Now, the shuffle is obviously out, I want full features. Leaving the mini, the normal, and the photo. But the prices differences are just ridiculous. Obviously Apple doesn't have to charge this freaking much. So clearly the 60 gig is the best deal, but I don't wanna spend no 450. Buy.com has them at discounts and I could get a 30 gig for 330, and then get the 20 dollar radio transmitter, taking me back to 350, but then it's like I got something extra.
The other problem is, I have all my albums on my computer at home. Thats over 20 gigs worth. Thats a week and a half of continuous, 24 hour music. On my work computer here I've got 80 albums, which is 3 and a half days of music---or just under 5 gigs. Realistically, I am never going to want more than 10, maybe 15 gigs. I don't need ALL the music I have to be in my iPod. So given that, I don't WANT to buy a 30 or 60 gig, I'd be shocked if I ever even NEEDED that much space. Indeed, I could get away with a 6 gig iPod mini. But that just isn't cost effective. Not even close. The 20, 30, and 60 are then the only decently priced options, but even there the difference per gig is staggering. Comparable products from Dell and others are like 250 for a 20 gig. But because my main computer is a Mac, and iTunes only works with the iPod, I have to get one of those if I get anything. The heck am I supposed to do?
Stupid Apple.
