Thinking about my SFSU application...

Dear Future Roommate,

It seems strange to introduce myself to someone who knows nothing about me by starting with my name, as most introductions are made. What good will my name do without an identity to attach to it? So, let me tell you a bit about myself before I give you a name to connect to me. As you may already be able to tell, I don’t always do things the socially “correct” way. This quality probably comes from spending much of my childhood as “that quiet girl” tucked away in a corner reading a book. One tends to miss a bit of the socialization process while being off in another world most of the time and I liked the independence. Luckily, I caught up on my social skills by eighth grade or so as I started to overcome my shyness, but I have never valued being materialistic or “popular.”

Moving from my childhood home of New Orleans to Houston was difficult, but, fortunately, I’ve found an even happier life here. Moving back to Louisiana will be both delightful and saddening since I have a close-knit group of friends here that I care for very much, including my boyfriend Matt. I’m also very close to my parents, and my sister who currently attends LSU.  I can be rather serious at times, especially about school, but I would call myself a friendly, if quiet, person. A future roommate would probably like to know about my living habits, since we would be sharing a room. On the scale of obsessive cleanliness, I rank somewhere between someone who picks up her room every other day (which I do) and someone who alphabetizes every book she owns (which I don’t do). I wake up early, enjoy health food, and despise most radio and television, though I love a variety of music. I find abnormal psychology and wave physics to be two of the most interesting topics I’ve ever encountered. If there is one thing, however, that I have learned in my life so far, it is that the more you learn, the more you come to realize how little you know.

Now that you have a general idea of my personality, you can attach that to a physical description, which is less important. My driver’s license says that I’m a 5’2’’, 125 lb. female with brown hair and blue eyes, which is accurate enough. Oh, and my name is Katie Barrilleaux; pleased to meet you.
