i remember
it was freezing
and you told him of your obsession with strings
[he ignores her sometimes
to keep the warmth inside his heart]
so you tied him up
and left him hanging
[knots around the skies
bright eastern moon
until it was the sun's turn
the breathe]
you dragged him through clouds
and the smoke of the burning earth
through the tops of trees his body went
[she didnt once look up]
and when you arrived
where you'd be satisfied
you looked up
and i saw in your eyes
you'd mistaken what you thought you wanted
and i saw you cry
and i know you're sorry
i know you'd have taken it back
too late
just try
like film
tries to stay tucked in the dark
and then emerge
like a choking butterfly
giving your colors
and your last breath
to the world
we owe it to each other.
