I deleted my LJ shortly after moving to Richmond, my computer was messed up and i didnt want to have to use my dads computer all the time. The site said it could be undeleted within 30 days, but it seems that it can also be undeleted within 6 months. Sweet.
So, susanna asked me what food not bombs is. Every sunday, we meet in a church in Richmond (kinda in the city, technically, i dont live in richmond, but midlothian, a suburb, and the church is 1/2 an hour away) and we make vegan meals from a bit after twelve til about 4, which is when we drive to Monroe park and serve the food to whoever wants it. We also have a give away box of extra foods for people to take home. Its aimed to help the homeless/less fortunate, or just to be a good time to hang out and eat. Sus also asked what we serve. We get donations from grocery stores of foods that they dont want anymore (less pretty fruits/vegetables, baked goods that didnt sell, etc) and we chop them up and make things like soup, stir fry, pasta, usually a green salad and a fruit one, a bread box, a sweet box (both of which are vegetarian but not all vegan), and drinks like water, kool aid, or tea. Sometimes the commune Twin Oaks brings tofu and thats included in whatever we cook. Not everything comes from donations, there are also benefit shows, such as the ska one that was $6 or $5 with a can of food. That was a fun show, and we got a ton of cans and over $700. We serve the food, and eat it and hang out in the park. my family teases me cause they say that the homeless people we feed would rather have meat, but they seem to enjoy our food anyway. Sus also asked something about it being anti war, it started a while ago in another city (there are locations all over) when people were upset about money being spent on war or weapons or something (it was in something i read, i dont remember the details) and they said that money should be useed to feed the less fortunate so they set up a table for serving food outside of a meeting having to do with those weapons or whatever. There are all sorts of pamphlets on a table that we set up near the food with information about the organization and other things, i saw one that read "its not bush, its the system". So, food not bombs is a fun place to hang out, help make food, meet cool people, and get comunity service hours for school. i dont get to go as often as i wish i could because of school, swimming, and the fact that i dont drive (sometimes i can ride with friends who drive when i convince them to go), but i enjoy it when i do go.
-oh, can anyone tell me how to make my background a picture or something, can i do that with a free account?
