the death of a man

I have been unmoved and, frankly, irritated by what I saw as the overblown media coverage of former President Gerald Ford's death. I remember Ford's administration (vaguely), and he didn't seem like that big of a deal. Nor has he had to my knowledge any significant impact on the country as an ex-president... certainly not as public as Carter. For these reasons I felt pissed off when NPR's Morning Edition today reminded me that 'the nation is mourning' Ford's passing. BFD, I thought.

Then I saw a picture of his wife kneeling by the coffin...

Thank You for the reminder that men and women need not be famous or effective to be mourned.
