[For Ellie]

Chuck was well-aware that he probably looked a little crazy walking down the path with an armful of baby clothes, but when he'd been in the compound looking for baby stuff for Ellie and Madeline, he hadn't thought about what would happen when he'd inevitably need to transport it all from the compound. They were tiny clothes, he had man-sized hands ( Read more... )

Ellie had just put Madeline down in her crib for a little while when she heard the knock on the door. After making sure she was settled, she headed for the door, opening it up to see who it was.

"Hey, Chuck, come on in," she said, her smile widening a little when she noticed the clothes he was carrying. After stepping aside to let him through, she actually went outside herself to retrieve two pieces of clothing that had fell from his pile before she went in with him, shutting the door behind them. "How long did it take you to get this many clothes?"

Chuck actually had to think about it for a second.

"Um...a few hours," He answered, looking for a place to set down the rest of his haul, "Give or take. Not counting bathroom breaks."

Maybe it was a little crazy, but he figured he'd better take advantage of the clothesbox being cooperative while he could. If he'd left, it probably would have been full of suspenders and glittery socks.

"I appreciate the dedication," she replied, both sincere and teasing. "Let's have a look at what you found. You can put it on the table over there if you want."

"It's not like I have a whole lot going on," Chuck said, with a shrug that sent a tiny pink sock rolling off of the top of the pile and onto the ground. He managed to get the pile onto the table without losing much else.

With the school term over, Chuck had been struggling to find things to fill the hours. Well, besides trying to figure out whether he wanted to talk to or avoid Bryce Larkin.

Ellie picked up what fell along the way, placing it on top of the pile. From a quick glance over, it looked like he got things she thought she might be able to use.

"She's already starting to get too big for some of the clothes we got for her," she said, starting to pick through what was in front of her, separating the things she thought might be good to wear to the things she didn't. The 'to use' pile was much, much larger. She smiled over her shoulder at him as she added, "I think you might have better luck than me with this, Chuck."

"Yeah, but I wonder if I've used up all of my clothes box karma now," Chuck said. After this, he was probably destined to only find rainbow bikinis for months and months. And while he wouldn't have minded if Sarah found rainbow bikinis, they weren't much use to someone who didn't really have the hips to pull them off.
