After angelofsnow found an lj-icon customizer, I couldn't resist fiddling with it, then improving the pics to suit my pedantic nature on Photostudio. So far I have:

The smaller it looks, the less noticeable the errors are. :) This one is based on his entrance into Katazza in TOTR.

The monochrome made this one very difficult. Perhaps the grey eyes should have been lighter, and the hair is marginally better than Karan's (which isn't saying much)!
In other news, I have begun a VFTM mod of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri which is a role-playing strategy game for Win95 and above. The faction files are finished and I am busy customising the vehicles and technologies. Firaxis advises gamers to "modify these files at your own risk" so as far as I know there is nothing illegal about it (there are plenty of disclaimers and it is non-profit anyway). There are some screenshots at my journal however they are noisy due to my screencapping program. :(
