Hermione was nervous. Her first trial before the Wizengamot as head counsel was today. Now if only she could find her other lucky sock! She was currently wearing her best business robes, her stockings, and one orange and pink striped sock that Ron gave her for Christmas their sixth year. Well, she didn't actually receive the gift on Christmas, but that was a different story. They had been her favorite socks since he gave them to her, and even though she would never admit to having "lucky socks" she wore them whenever she was nervous. She had to find the other one.
Ron walked into their bedroom. "Hi, love. Umm . . . what are you doing?"
"I can't find my other sock! I've looked everywhere, and I can't find it!"
"Maybe I can help." Ron held out a lumpy package to Hermione.
She took it, asking, "What's this?"
"A good luck present." Ron smiled at her sheepishly.
Hermione tore off the paper to reveal a pair of orange and pink polka-dotted socks. "Perfect!" She hugged Ron, and put one of the socks on her currently sockless foot. She followed that with her boots, effectively hiding the socks. "Now I'm ready!"
Ron chuckled, "Dobby would be proud . . . and so am I. You'll be great today! I love you."
"I love you, too." Hermione kissed Ron tenderly, then headed out the door for her first trial, properly dressed and feeling confident in her mismatched socks.
