Anyone else here twiddling their thumbs while waiting for the Champions Online open beta to work?
For those of you who don't know, the open beta was supposed to start today at 10:00 PDT (12:00 Central, which is my time). It's been 12 hours and as far as I can tell, not a single person has been able to get into the game due to horrific patcher errors and download times (several hours to get to 1%). People are having to rearrange files on their computer, re-download the game client from FilePlanet with its awful several-hour queues, and then struggle to download huge files at the end 95-99% of the download, only to have the patcher crash and start all over again.
The forums are rife with complaints, but there's some MMO-themed gallows humor I felt was worth sharing with fellow geeks who may appreciate it.

i got to level 36 already its great weird having a % after the levels but my class is strong just a little slow at leveling! End Game is going to be great i heard of an awesome error at the end!

i got too level 99 and had a epic battle that made me respec to level 1, i gave this game a 8.5/10

GameClient.exe is the only one I cant beat..... keep getting him to 95.5%....then I loose the will to live.

So far so good it practically plays itself. Although later on there is a lot more interaction and quick frustrating sequences that involve backtracking to the beginning to make progress 7/10.

Guess it's time to grind mats to make some +Connect gear and then respec "Patch Speed" build. Like I have the bag space for that... *sigh*

In a time where WoW Clones are super linear it is refreshing to see a game like this where the progression jumps around. I log in every few hours and I never know where I will go.

This game has been so epic but i'm gonna have to go to bed, im gonna leave my leveling bot run and hopefully i'd of dinged at lvl 100 by the time I wake up

Cryptic hates bots. They will totally disconnect you and limit your leveling to .8%. Trust me, they totally caught my level bot while I worked today and thats what happened to me.

I just got the "Unexpectedly Disconnected" debuff while fighting Music_Login.fsb and let me tell you something - I totally wasn't expecting it!
I think I may have gimped myself at character generation though, I took a negative trait that gave me -100 Resistance against MusicFiles in the hopes that I could get more perks like .Hoggzilla which gives you all kinds of bonuses when moving .Piggs. But the documentation's not the greatest and all I got was another negative trait for 50% chance to violently die whenever target creature gets below 99% health.
Thankfully the game's very forgiving and you can start over again and again to make your character just right.

Man, the devs just did a stealth patch - new version is 2009_08_17_19_15. WN_STATE seems to be renamed to RESTART. Is that a nerf or a buff? At least they fixed the bug where you had to re-take the tutorial every time you start the patcher, though.

As for me, I've got the patcher running -- it's only completely restarted 3-4 times for me. I'm at 36 megs out of 3.6 gigs now, and it only took me about 45 minutes to get there. I've also got the FilePlanet Download Manager running, in case the patch takes longer than it takes to sit through the ~400 minute queue at FilePlanet, then download it from there. With any luck, I'll get to play sometime this week!
